Aloha!!!
My wife drives 2001 2wd Expedtion with 255/70/16. I believe the rim width is 7". What would be the widest/biggest we could go on these rims? Any suggestion on tires, also? Mostly road with some gravel off-road use. I drive a 2001 4wd F150 with 265/75/17. My rim width is 7.5". Anyone knows what's the widdest/biggest I could go on these stock 17"? Also, any suggestions on tires? I want an aggressive off-road look! Will bigger tires/rims cause future computer problems or the "Service need soon" to go on? Any feedback will greatly be appreciated. Mahalo-Sho
Look at some of the tire dealers web sights (discount tire...) and talk to some in person too. Some will tell you that if you try and oversize too much it will have an adverse effect on the ABS which sounds reasonable to me. As you might expect, it will effect your speedo reading too.
Originally posted by BigMattXXL I'm 99% sure you can squeeze a set of 285/75/16's under there - they translate to 33x11.50x16. Buzzard's got them on his truck, and they look badass.

Si. I wouldn't go any wider than these with the stock 7" rims though.
Thanks for the feedbacks!!! Do you guys think swapping out my stock wheel/tire set up (practically brand-new tires!) off of my F150(265/75/17) and putting them on the expy and visa-versa on the expy's 16" rims with aggressive-looking 285/75/16 tires on my F150 will be a "Good thing" or a "Bad thing"? Do you think I will have trouble stepping up or stepping down on the sizes of rims? The reason is that we do need new tires in the next month or 2 and I would like the aggressive look on my truck. We drove around the parking lot of the mall and I pointed out several different tire styles on some truck's/suv's there and it seems that she doesn't want the oversized-aggressive look. I digress, for some reason our 2wd expy seems alot lower (More in the front, less in the rear) than other expy's here on the big island. I'm going to shop around for shocks...probably ProComp's or Rancho's. Any suggestion on this also? We have about 42k on the expy. Thanks again, for the informative feedback! Much Mahalos-Sho
Buzzard and Tooltime you both mentioned 285/75/16's I was curious if either of your trucks were lifted and also if they lacked the air ride suspension. Also do you have any pictures in the gallery, and lastly do they ever rub in a tight turn with articulation etc... Thanks, Also do you believe this to be the largest tire to fit under an EXPY wit stock suspension if yours are not lifted.

No lift, stock non-air suspension. I did crank the torsion bars up about an inch to help level out the truck....I can't stand a lowered front-end on a 4x4. No rub whatever. I have to believe that the 285 is the largest tire to fit without any other modification, although the guy at the tire shop told me a 305/70 would fit, but I've got to believe it would rub somewhere.
Before you go swapping on 33" tires, what engine do you have in the Expy? Curious, if its the 4.6, Id put in some gears too, or a smaller tire, put 33's on that with a stock 4.6 and your wife will be wondering why shes being passed by mopeds on the highway. This Motor is pretty dismal the way it is, dont hurt it anymore! Of course, and aftermarket exhaust, somegears, and youll be fine.. Of course if you have the 5.4 youll be better off, but not a whole lot.
Yup, yup...she's got the 5.4L and I have the slug 4.6L. It must be the combo of the weight of the 4wd unit and the taller tires which holds back the "Tire rippin" torque of my 4.6L. Then again, if I throw the F150 into 4x4 low, I can beat her off the line...for about 25ft...ha-ha-ha!!! BTW, bought 265/75/16 pro comp mud terrains for the Expy( Can't beat buy 3, get 1 free). I figured I'd better stay conservative since it's not my expy. Thanks again, for everyones feedback. It is very much appreciated! Mahalo-Sho
Hey Luzer, My Expy is completly stock, no lift(yet). I have been light wheelin only a few times, and have not rubbed anyhting due to tire rub. I think 285's are probably as large as you want with factory wheels. The 285's in my opinion look purfect under our rigs without a lift. I do recommend a gear change. It worked wonders for me. No air bags, No pictures yet. Good luck
