Lightbulb Some Expy ???'s

Hey there....
thinking about getting a 97 expy.
Here is my deal. I have an F250 diesel to do all of our hauling and towing. I live in Nebraska/Iowa...so I NEED the 4wd. I want the room for my dogs (6...maybe 7 by tomorrow) and kids etc.

I put on 1000 miles a week. About 50k miles a year. I drove a 4.6 and a 5.4. I do notice the difference in peppyness. The Torque is much better. But other than that....what benifit is there? Seems to me like the 5.4's biggest benifit is if you are towing. Is that acurate?

Just how reliable are these things? How many miles can I expect? What is the highest miles anyone has seen on an expy?

Is there anything that I should be looking for in particular? ie I know in explorers with a v6 the trannys are pretty weak. Anything like that wrong on the Expy?

Thanks a ton from the new guy!

Some Expy ???'s

I ordered my '97 new, received it May 26, 1997 and from day one it's been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned (29 cars and trucks and over a million miles so far). I've got 112K miles on it, and it uses no more oil than it did when new, (5K miles per qt. solo, no load, and 3500 miles per qt towing 5K lbs in the mountians of CO.) I get 16 mpg solo, average about 10 when towing 5K lbs at the speed limit. It's performed just as well at 20 below zero as it does at 124 degrees F. It pulls my 5K lb. travel trailer at 11K ft. without a hitch.

I've pulled many stuck vehicles out of deep mud without spinning my wheels, including a 5 ton dually wrecker buried to it's frame. I've pulled Jeeps and Chevy's out of sand pits with no problem. I've climbed rocks, run river beds, ran road rallies and ProRally courses, hauled cross ties and cement at maximum load. All with the optional 17" wheels and 265/70-17 tires.

My vehicle looks and performs just like a new, perfect one. I change all fluids at factory recommended intervals, and follow the service manual schedule, whether it needs it or not. Nothing has ever broken or quit.

My life depends on it being reliable since I go off road into very remote areas where there is no communication possible in an emergency. I'm gonna put another 100K or more miles on this one before I trade for a new Expy.
