Aloha all! I live in the Bay Area and found myself today with a flat rear tire ( Stock Firestone 265/75/16 A/T Steeltex) and was wondering if anybody else has been told that the tire companies are only selling tires for 4x4's by sets only.
Also, I was told that the biggest tire that you can go on the stock rim was 285/75/16's ( on the stock five star polished rims)
If that was the case, I was looking for any tire replacement suggestions and was steering towards BFGs, Michelins, or stock Firestones but in 285's or bigger than stock. I like the five star style stock rims, but don't see anything similar out there with a wider rim offering.
I don't do that much offroading, yet. Mainly wintertime up in Tahoe. But do like the big rim/tire package look!
Also any Online tire store suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks for the help and suggestions!
P.S. The truck is a 2001 F-250 Lariat cc sb V-10 Offroad 4x4.
If you don't find what you're after here, try the "search" engine for "tires" in the upper right corner, you'll get over 1100 hits.
As for selling tires in sets, depending on the wear and size of the other tires, they're trying to save your drivetrain. As I understand it, 4x4's do not like single oddball tires, but I've never owned one so I'm only going by what my son says.
you would not be disappointed to look at nitto terra grapplers. i have had them and they are a great tire. try discount tire direct or many other sources on the web who carry them.compared to a bfg at they are less expensive but have many favorable mileage testimonies. ask a guy on here named overkill who owns a four wheel drive shop in texas ,he has put alot of these on.
I have Yokohama Geolandar AT+II's I love them. I got them at discount tire for $121 a tire and thats shipping and everything. My brother just ordered a set for his tahoe. They are the second best tire according to the survey on tirerack.com. You will not be disappointed with them
i also purchased the Yokohama Geolander A/T's, also at Discount Tire. Paid $500 for the set mounted and balanced, including road hazard. They even gave me a credit of $30 each for my old tires. several folks i know recommended these tires, and even though i only have about 200 miles on them, seem to be pretty good.
