My drivetrain and frame in my truck are from an 85 F-350/460.

My transfer case has been making some funny noises. I am debating rebuilding it, or swapping in something else. I am running 4.10's in the rear for towing and it just screams on the highway. I have been looking into a ZF 5 swap as well.
Will my transfer case bolt up to a ZF, or is there a better combo to pick up instead?
Yes, it will bolt up. If you decide to get a different transfer case, make sure you get the shifter with it, or make sure yours is the same shifter and linkage/length. They also have different output shafts. Some of them are fixed yoke and some of them are slip yoke. If you do not want to change your rear driveshaft, stick with the same transfer case and the same output shaft style.
They will all bolt up to the t18, t19, zf 5 speed, c6, E4OD. It's the other small things you need to worry about. Most of the time the oil level is low, they like to start leaking and no one checks the oil in these things.

Ok thanks. I was just reading that the BW 1356 is a good replacement also. Lots of choices. I have the bolt on flanges and would like to keep it that way.
Oil is good in mine. It had sat for a while so last year I flushed it, drove it then flushed it again. Did that twice, it was pretty dirty in there.
