There's been a lot of recent discussion on this very topic. Portable apps are "listeners", they're not ones to give orders. They can read and display PCM commands (like IPR), and PCM data (like ICP and DTCs), but the apps can't tell the PCM what to do. In order for a device, app, or software to do this, they have to pay Ford for access to their proprietary and copyrighted commands. If Car Gauge Pro, Torque Pro, Dash Command, or any other $5 or $6 app could do a buzz test - they'd brag on that like a five-year-old that just learned to tie his shoes: "Lukit what I can do!" They would also make it clear how to access it.
Sorry.
I tried Car Gauge Pro and I was underwhelmed. I shifted my attention to Torque Pro and checked the forums for improving the Ford Enhanced PIDs to get better readings than what can be chosen from the list. I did my own modifications to some of the PIDs, but it's still a work in progress. If you're interested, you can follow along here: [LINK]
From the description on the GooglePlay store site:
[Enhanced Functions]
✮ Ford (1996-2008) - Check/Clear Faults, Self Test, KOEO, KOER, Diesel Glow Plug/Injector Buzz/Cyl Contribution Test, Outputs On/Off, Low/High Speed Fan Test, and Enhanced Data 1175 PIDS (ISO, PWM, CAN)
And I agree Rich, Torque is way easier to use and better looking, but doing a google search, there are other forums where the members have said they have gotten the car gauge pro to do the test, I was just checking to see if anyone here has an easy tutorial for us FTE members.
- To get it started you have to press the little plug button at the top of the screen.
- Select Ford as the vehicle make.
- Select Powertrain (the first one)
- Select Scan All when it says Select System Type (Ford)
- Select Full Auto Scan (All Pids)
- Choose your device/dongle/ELM
- Allow it to connect
- It will say Available ECU - mine said 10, I just picked it as it was the only option
- Wait for it to scan all the PIDS (and yes, do like I did and think about the battery, fuel pump priming, glow plugs glowing, etc. annoyingly while you wait)
- It will then ask you to save the PID list, just give it a name
- Now, from the Car Gauge home screen press the "settings" button in the top right (three little squares)
- Select OBD Menu
- Select Self Test
- Now select Fan, Outputs, Injector, Glow Plug, CCT, etc.
