I wonder if you could retrofit the ecu/trans controller from an e4od idi truck into your truck.
Shift points would be weird though. Hmmm. Would need to have a programmer to tweak shift points meaning extra money. May as well just get shift controller.

My biggest reason for the "keep it Ford" doesn't have anything to do with brand, but ease of parts availability. The lockup converter is also a bonus on the E40D.
When I rebuilt the engine, it was because my dad had hydro-locked it and bent a rod, so the addition of a non-Ford cam to a mild RV was just as a way of getting rid of the emissions related power robbing cam grind. Otherwise I don't plan on a major change-up. Reliability is the first concern, ease of repair and parts availability, as well as good power are next.
yeah i really dont think you are going to brake a gear vendors, and you can split each gear, honestly if you want reliability and brute strength the strongest option is a c6 with a gear vendors, but as said you wont have a lockup TC
