so before i left for work 6 months ago i diagnosed my truck (92, f250, 4x4, 460) with a bad stearing box. i have a replacement and it is in the truck, sort of.the box needs to move up and back by about a 1/4 inch but there is no give anywhere in the system. what am i missing?
the steering shaft is extended too far. I cant seam to get the new box in position to bolt it up. The Haynes manual says to get the steering shaft on the box first then lift the box in place. but i cant seam to get it to align with the holes
When i convirted my ranger the steering shaft would slide up an inch or two to let the box bolt in place but it doesnt seam that the one in the 250 will move at all, should it?
I also put the box in first and then slide the shaft down. Do you have the bolt out of the clamp on the steering column? It needs to be out for the steering box to slide in.

Are you talking about the bolt that is on the interior of the the truck just about at the midway point from the floor? If so no I don't have that out. Ill pull it though and try
No the bolt that holds the joint onto the steering box shaft. The bolt has to be completely out in order for that shaft to slide onto the splines
Yes that bolt was out. I got it in this morning and took a test drive and the steering was better but now it seams to have developed a leak when it's cooling down. All the fittings are tight and seated. Could the box leak and I still have power assist?
