EGR valve problems obd1 code 33 KOER
Hey guys I am getting a code 33 still that I thought i had fixed. I I have 12 volts at the EVR I also Grounded the green wire to the negative side of the battery. The idle changed and it almost died like it was supposed to. But it still says the egr is not opening. any ideas? now the cel is not on but I did a code check any way with a jumper wire and this was the code i got besides a couple of others, but i already know what is causing these codes. The reason I want to get this code 33 fixed is because, when I drive it and it shifts from second to third gear it boggs down and I can here the engine pinging under normal throttle. If I punch it, it doesn't seem to do this, does anyone know what would cause this? I am going nuts. Please Help in anyway thanks Scrobbie.

I have a 1989 f250 302 MT that is throwing the same code. my check engine light will flicker at me a few times just after the engine heats up, then never come back. I am also getting a vss code but that is because the cable has popped out and I haven't fixed that yet. very soon I am replacing the erg + solenoid and vacuum lines. I have the parts already to go, just not the time yet. hoping that clears it all up.

Are you getting the code in CM or KOER?
Code 33 doesn't necessarily mean the EGR valve isn't opening- the definition is "EGR valve opening not detected" which means the computer doesn't "see" the EGR opening when it should. If you know for certain the EGR is opening when it's supposed to, the code indicates a problem with the EVP and/or the related circuit. You need to start by testing the EVP. Fuel Injection Technical Library » EGR Valve Position sensor (EVP) If that checks out, you need to be looking at the wiring itself and making sure there's good continuity between the EVP connector and the computer.
What year and engine is the truck? You talk of engine pinging and the the only thing I know that's typically related to that sound is the knock sensor. If your truck doesn't have a knock sensor, then I think that means the base timing is too far advanced and needs to be adjusted. But I don't know enough to confirm that one way or the other.
