Code 33

I ran the self test and got code 33. I tested the sensor on the egr valve and ended up replacing the EGR valve and the sensor on top of the EGR valve. Ran the self test agian and still get code 33. What do I do?

Did you disconnect your negitive battery cable for awhile ??To reset the codes or there is a few more parts that could cause that code.

Check the vaccum line going to it. If it is bad it can cause a code 33.

Check the EVR (mounted near the ignition coil) to see if it will hold a vacuum when it is closed. If it leaks vacuum, the EGR valve will open up when the computer is not expecting it to, and will throw a code.

Had the same problem with a 90 f-150, replaced EVR and it fixed the problem. There is a procedure using a voltage multimeter to check it. Good luck

Disconnecting the battery cable for 15 minutes should have reset anything that needed to be reset. Can you find out what was actually done?

Thanks, I would like to know. I have heard of computer settings on GMs that are modified and then next time you disconnect your battery, you lose the setting and it has to be set again. This doesn't fix anything it just keeps from setting and error code and the check engine light. If he did something like that you should know what to expect.

On the other hand, maybe clearing the codes just didn't take when you disconnected your battery cable.
