This is my first post so please bare with me . . . I was reading the tech article about the OEM Tachometer upgrade to a 1992-1996 Bronco/F-150 in the Tech Articles
and would like to know if anyone out there has done this to an E-Series. I know the Gauges and the same between the F-Series, E-Series, and the Bronco and the dashes are all very similar. If the harness for the tachometer is in every F-Series and Bronco, will it be in every E-Series also? Did any E-Series come from the factory with Tachometers stock or as options? I know that they all shared power trains and engines also. It would be somewhat stupid for Ford to include the harness in every Bronco and F-Series but not the E-Series. I got a line on a used Cluster from a 1995 Ford F-150 for only $50 bucks. Maybe even cheaper if they can separate the Tachometer and Auxiliary gauges from the Speedo since I will be using my stock one to keep an accurate odometer. Any help from you Fordaphiles would be much appreciated. Thanks.
NObody is really sure on here, not very many of them have Van experience. I have a van and would like to do this swap myself. The only problems I see is the new cluster may not fit the dash, and the gauges look different.
Well, in the article, the picture of the old gauges (the ones separated in pieces) look exactly like the one's in my van. Well, the one difference is my gauges have a grid type pattern on the surface and the ones in the articles do not. $50 really is not that much to put out there to see if it will fit, but I do hate throwing money away. I thought I would throw the question out there to see if I got any bites. I guess I could probably pull the current gauge cluster and see if I can see an extra harness that might be used for a tachometer. Thanks for the reply pfogle.
While a factory tach would be cool it is too much work for me so
I found a tach on Ebay for $14 with shipping. It was new, only went to 5000 rpm and had large numbers. I just strapped it to the left side of the steering column .
Just another option.
Not sure, haven't had the time or $$ to look into any further. I need to call my local bone yards to see if I can locate a cluster, and go from there.
I will look on tues (7-1) and see what I can see as far as appropriate wiring, it may be already wired just not hooked up.
I really appreciate your responses. Let me know what you find. Regardless, I have an instrument panel light out and I need to replace it anyway. I will probably be breaking it open next week. Just need to go to the local parts store for a bulb. My parking break light switch is intermittent also, so I guess I will pick one of those up too.
