Actaully, if he is using the 1-4635HD as stated in the quote above he is has a 1310 with one set of large caps and one small. U-joint, 1310 w/1.125 cups one end and 1.062 other side = 1-4635HD or 5-1201X Modern Driveline, Inc. - driveshaft
Yep, that is what he has, I found the PN in a ujoint catalog I keep handy. As far as torque, I am just a backwoods dude, I hang on the wrench until it feels tight
Yeah, Ryan, I got the 1330x1350 in there after much ado. Seems to fit nicely. I guess its off to the drive line shop tomorrow to see about a new DS. It's only (more) money.
Just going off of what was posted..................
1350 is not going to fit in the 8" rear yoke. Its a big cap 1310.
It was good learning for me doing the research since I know GM rears but not fords, pretty smart idea running larger caps on the yoke.
I learned a lot when I replaced the 9" in my 52. It uses the Ford big cap u-joints, was the first time I had heard of them. Yes it is a good idea on Ford's part, I'm sure it helps when they get over torqued.
A big cap Ford 1310 is nothing more than a 1310 cross with two 1310 caps and two 1330 caps, the ID on both sets of caps is the same. And as such, the torque should be 14-17 ft/lbs per the chart. The 1350 is not a very common u-joint for the Ford unless is is something big, heavy or changed out.
As far as getting a torque wrench on the u-bolts-Good Luck. I agree with Dave just hang on it until it feels tight. 14-17 ft/lbs is not very much just past snug with some loctite and I would call it good.
mmmm... 1330 and 1310 both have 1 and 1/6" cap diameters, the difference between 1330 and 1310 is the width of the joint itself. 3.6 in vs 3.2 in
This ford big cap thing is not something I have ever heard of before, but I don't deal with old stuff much. Looked an awful lot like the 1330 x 1350 U-joint in my 88 mustang... learning all the time.
I have torqued my 1350 down to about 40 ft lbs... so far only several dozen 140 mph 1/4 mile passes without a failure. I'll keep you guys posted on cap distortion if I ever have to replace the U-joint.
Never mind my stupidity on my last post, I screwed the pooch on that one. It is a 3RL (1.125 od) style cap on either of those joints that make it a BC Ford.
Probably not on Tyler rejoining, he said I got my info, got it together and said I am out of here. Tyler waving good-bye
I thought it would be so simple! I am having to replace my drive shaft cuz its too short (see above) but I'm gonna wait until I have the rest of the truck together and the weight on the axle to figure out the right length. Then I'll be back into this one. Y'all sure know a lot of details about this stuff!
i didn't read all the post on this.. but the first post u did of the rear and said it's a '66 mustang.. i don't think so.. a '65 & '66 mustang rears have a drop in axle tube size.. the '67 up did not, they are the same size all across. so from your photo u have a '67 up.

Actually I said it was a 60's mustang. That's as specific as I got/knew. But you say a 67 or later. That's good to know. Thanks for that! I was also told that it might be from a galaxy. Is there any way to tell? T

re-reading your first post... u did say that, sorry.. so much for understanding what i read.. if my memory is almost correct.. i last bucket had a '67 mustang rear and it measured 54" from backing plate to plate. i was able to run 19 1/2" wide tires.. after the build i see i could have gone with the 22" wide i really wanted.. but it came down during the build of not sure if they would fit and if u mounted them u bought them and no returning..
sorry for my rambling.. i was thinking i was on the T-bucket site... i'm going back to bed...
