I blew out a tire and am thinking of getting 1 new tire and running it with the spare on the rear and putting the best 2 of the current up front and using the 3rd as a spare. The spare rim matches the others and if it has tpms it will save me from dismounting/mounting 2 tires which i dont have equiptment to do myself. .so does spare on a 2010 have tpms?
My guess is no but as long as you have the new tire aired correctly with the TPMS then I don't see why you would have a TPMS light or anything
Unfortunately that's not going to work. The sensors are activated by tire rotation, so even if the new tire has a TPMS sensor it won't be rotating if used as a spare, so the PCM won't be able to see it.
the programming in the truck can only register the 4 that have been trained (key on-off 3 times-push brakes-key on off 3 times, horn honks. Then dash says "train left front tire" using tool, "train" the LF. Then resume for the rest of them--rf, rr, lr. Horn honks twice to signify training complete.
Lol we are all over the place here! 3 no and 1 yes... I guess i need to try the reprogramming and see if it recognizes it. Then ill either know it doesnt have it or im doing it wrong!
My 2012 F-350 sw has a TPMS in the spare, figured out after I put new tires on and was having the system go off trying to keep 65lbs(too low), when we were diagnosing we checked the spare, and it registered as having one
Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) includes:
the Body Control Module (BCM) located under the passenger side kick panel.
the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) module located behind the instrument panel on the RH side near the glove box.
four tire pressure sensors.
an Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) indicator.
a message center (if equipped).
Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Module
The TPM module is a radio receiver that collects the tire air pressure data from the TPMS tire pressure sensors. The TPM module passes the tire sensor air pressure data to the BCM , where the BCM applies a predetermined pass/fail criteria.
The BCM compares the information of each tire pressure sensor message against a pressure limit. If the BCM determines that the tire pressure has fallen below the low limit, the BCM communicates this to the IPC on the vehicle communication bus. Refer to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in Diagnosis and Testing for TPM module fault diagnosis and repair.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Pressure Sensor
The BCM monitors the air pressure in the 4 road tires with tire pressure sensors. The sensors transmit radio frequency signals to the TPM module approximately once every 60 seconds when the vehicle speed exceeds 32 km/h (20 mph).
The tire pressure sensors are battery operated and are mounted to the valve stem.
