my Dad was having problems with his 06 6.0. ran rough and then stopped running altogether. We dropped the tank to check for sludge also replaced the pump on the frame rail changed upper filter. we have been trying to prime the pump or fill the upper fuel filter bowl cycled key 12 -15 times no luck, any hints tips or tricks thanks Tom
Try loosening the fuel line at the upper fuel filter housing ( regulator) so the air can escape there. After you get fuel that far fill upper housing by hand. Just a guess but might work.

You could also just take the cap off and avoid the chance of a leaking
line after replacing the line.

Duhhhhhhh, who would have ever thunk of that?
Yahiko, could he Back prime the system thru the upper filter or is there a check valve in-between upper and lower housings? If no C - Valve could he remove fuel cap to vent tank and prime that way??

There isn't a need to remove the cap or line to "bleed" the fuel system. The upper filter housing has an air bleed built in to the regulator that returns air back to the fuel tank. If he's not getting fuel to the upper filter either the new pump isn't working, hasn't picked up fuel, or he has a leak. He may not have gotten the lines connected back to the tank correctly. He may simply need to put more fuel in the tank.

Also the pump is lower than the fuel tank and should'n need primed. Just KOEO several times.
thanks guys for the continued info I'll play with it more tonite. The fuel lines clipped on and off quite easily I did'nt lose any o-rings out of them. i tried dumping fuel into the upper fuel filter and it disappeared, I'm assuming it was pushed towards the injectors.
I wonder if the tank pick up is FUBAR that might do it

Could very well be that. If the pickup is blocked or leaking then he would
not be picking up fuel. If it's leaking then getting fuel over the plastic pickup
past to the metal pipe would tell. But that would ont fix it just postpone the
need to pull the tank and fix it.
