I am asking because I have searched...and searched...and searched and maybe I am looking in the wrong places on here, but I have had no luck finding out how to troubleshoot a slow blower. The questions are as follows: how hard should the air blow out (to determine if it is working as it should)? How would I go about cleaning out the heater core/blower housing to make sure the thing isn't just backed up? How do I determine if the blower is just running slow? I just charged my ac and boy it would be nice if the cold air came out a little bit harder to actually cool the cab instead of just teasing me. Thanks in advance for the help.
well, i took the motor out and tested it. it was spinning like crazy, so that is good, and the blower turns freely. then i plugged it back in and tested the blower controls whcih also seemed to work well. Looking into the housing, there was some gunk, old leaves, etc. took out the little electronic device (coily thingy) and was all filled with leaves and crap so i cleared that out. I cleaned out what i could from the ac core, but the fins were all gunked up. i couldn't figure out what to do, so i took the garden hose to it (seemed to drain out ok) and that took care of the gunk. That may not have been the ideal approach, but it sure did work. I now have ice cold ac that actually blows my hair back and hear/defrost that may actually clear the glass. just thought i would update that
Good job Cav. I never thought of the hose trick. I took my air compressor with an air nozzle attached and blew all that *stuff* out. Darn mice and other assorted rodents.
I was going to use air, but the gunk was all moist and gooey, and didnt seem like it would budge with air. I would guess I went from 20% clear to 80% clear. Much better performance. I may take it apart one of these days to do it right, but for now it'll do.
