Nitto Trail Grapplers

Hey guys. Iv been kicking around the idea of new tires. One set that I really like is the Nitto Trail Grapplers. They look good and have a super aggressive tread. Id like some info from anyone who owns them, and even better, some pics!

Iv done some research and found theyre a heavy tire. This isn't a huge problem since im sure my V10 will push em just fine. Id like to know for sure though.

Also Im looking to get some 35x12.50R18s. Iv read mixed answers on whether they'll fit. Is anyone running 35x12.50s on their stock Super Duty without issues?

I've had two sets on previous trucks and neither lasted anywhere close to 30k.

295/70R18s (34x11.50), they're just about to break the 40k mark here pretty soon. They're pretty much done and gone as far as being useful as an M/T tire, but they still rack up pavement miles fine. I made a 3k road trip from DFW to Chicago to Denver to DFW over the holidays, they drove through everything from freezing rain to solid ice to 8 inches of fresh snow, even with only about 4/32nds left on them. They were slippery little *******s on the ice in Chicago, you just have to use your brain and not treat them like studded winter tires and they're fine. The plus side to these tires is that they're rated for 4080# each, so I pumped them up under 10-15k trailers and they were great. I'd buy them again if I weren't dead set on highway tires next.

As far as fitment, you'll probably have a rubbing problem because of how your wheels are spaced out a little further to clear the leaf springs. My 34x11.50s fit perfectly fine on stock wheels, but right before I had 35x12.50s on wheels that were about an inch further out and rubbed even with a 2" leveling kit. Look at the 295/70R18 size instead of the 35X12.50, they might be just enough smaller to fit without rubbing.

If you keep them aired up and rotated and maintained properly then there is no reson they cant last you for some good miles, i have them on my 6.4 with 4" lift, i regularly tow trailers and have towed once or twice weighing as much 25-30K (i know im over ratings but in texas on farm roads they arent real picky about that). My trails have lasted me for about 45K and honestly they arent dying very quickly, like TT diesel said, they are getting to be less than what i would recommend for heavy mud driving but still doing great for traditional off-road and some mud. On ice it is slick if you are not careful, but powder snow it is a good tire. I would reccommend them and when this set is retired i will either get the same or the Toyo MT, which is the same exact tire, they just offer a few different size choices and weight ratings but i have not come to that decision time yet.

All in all i LOVE the tires. Just be sure to keep them maintained.

Whew 40,000 miles isn't very much lol. But Im sure that's what can be expected out of MTs lol.

FWIW the BFG A/Ts that came on the truck barely made 45k. Tires don't last down here because in the spring/summer/fall the roads get so hot, 40k over 4 years is actually pretty good tire life. Even fancy 70k rated tires like Michelin LTX MS2s don't last that long, we're on the 3rd set of tires in 80k on another F250, and I'm about to put my third set on around 85k.

Holy cow! That sucks lol. My biggest fear is dumping $1400 into tires and having to do it all over again in a few years... I love the looks/performance of MTs but don't want it to be a financial burden lol

I like mine when I need them which isn't very often but I also like the looks too. Having said that, if having to buy $1400 in tires every couple years is gonna be one of your biggest fears than these tires aren't for you. My truck isn't my daily driver and I'm still going through them quickly. I sometimes give em a good spin though.

I have them in 35x12.50r18 and I love them, I never need 4x4 in the summer anymore. I have been putting a lot of mile son them recently commuting to school but they dont seem to hve much wear at all yet and I have just shy of 5K on them. I will rotate them at 5k which is another 700 miles or so.

I fit them stock but they look very big IMO so i did a 3" lift, also i have the plow prep package so my front end sits higher. They did rub the plastic fender liner but i could have trimmed it if i didn't want to lift it. IMO it looks better with a small lift, also my wheel specs are 18x9 XD Monster's with -12mm offset.

Also FYI my rear lift is currently 5" but once i remove the stock block It will sit the same height in the rear as the front sits. Basically my front leveling kit started out as a 4" lift and settles to a 3" lift after a few months so mow i can drop the rear.

Personally my tires stick out roughly 2" and the side of the truck gets peppered so i would invest in some flares as well. If you get rims that place the tires out that far at least.

Your truck is BEAUTIFUL! Love your entire set-up lol

From looking at your truck, the first pics without the lift is the look im wanting. I like the "tucked" look as long as Im not chewing away at my fender if I hit a bump lol.

Don't get me wrong, the 3" lift looks sweet too! But Im just not wanting to spend that kind of money just yet

Lol thanks!, it's your truck man you like the tucked look then go for it , Just to let you know though i forgot to add that unless the wheel was straight if I hit anything like a speed bump the tires would rub the plastic fender liner. You could zip tie it back a few inches or cut it its your choice but You can see on my liners where they rubber because i ran it like that for 3 weeks while i waited for the parts for my lift. It's about a 2-3" high mark that's 1.5" wide right in the center of them so if you took say 3" off of them they probably wont hit anymore but also be aware that your gonna spray a lot more crud under the truck, if your down south then no worries but up north that means more salt getting sprayed on your cab.

I know what ya mean... My poor trucks been getting pounded with salt recently here in southern Illinois... And no mud flaps to boot.

My trucks got some fender flares on it now but I hardly doubt theyre wide enough to cover a 12.50 tire lol

If its those stock ones then definitely not lol, I'm going to get some Prestiege pocket flares they stick out 2" to cover the tire and I like how they follow the body rather than coming down to a point like the bushwacker ones. Also they are cheaper lol.

Youll find some fender flares useful if you get the trail grapplers. Once I had mud filled trail grapplers "cleanout" and I knew I needed flares. The Prestige flares have held up nicely a while now. They keep 90 % of the debris off the side of the truck.
