Wife just told me tonight that the overhead console and rear heater are not working in the excursion. Of course, we have a 3 hour drive tomorrow and it is cold outside. Have searched the forums for similar problem. The posts seem to center on either the readout not working or the heater not working, but not both. Anyone had similar problem? Trying to minimize time troubleshooting outside in the cold. Thanks.
Well, to update, went out next morning and started excursion. Fan worked fine and overhead computer worked. Let it run for a while to warm up. When I went back out, computer out and fan didn't work. Backing out of the driveway, heard some chattering in the dash, and everything came on for a while, then went out again after driving around for a while. However, when I started up for the ride back home, everything worked and has worked all week. This issue appears to be a connector, maybe, in the dash. When it gets warmer outside, maybe I'll do a little troubleshooting.
Sorry, need to revive this thread. Haven't had any issues with the overhead console until today. Went out and started the excurstion this morning for church. Overhead console was working. Left for church, not working again. This time, our turn signals also were not working. The brake lights and flashers work, but no turn signals. Looked at the circuit diagram and it looks like the signal issue MAY be the signal flasher relay. Checked all fuses and they are fine. I'm thinking it's just coincidence they both went out same time. Anybody experienced this and what fixed it? Work is crazy busy right now and I don't have a lot of time to spend troubleshooting, but can't have the wife driving without turn signals. One important note is that we do have a windshield crack that we haven't fixed yet that goes from driver lower corner, across low on the windshield and near the lower passenger corner. Thanks.
Jason
For those who stumble on this thread in the future with the same issue, here's what I found today. I had lost all turn signals, the lie-o-meter wasn't working and the rear AC/heat fan wasn't blowing (control in the overhead console). However, I did still have the lights/HVAC illumination in the overhead console. I had checked all fuses and nothing blown. I thought these were two separate issues that occurred at the same time, but apparently not. I had tried replacing the turn signal flasher relay, which didn't change anything. Next I replaced the turn signal multifunction switch, still nothing. I then started poking around under the dash, checking grounds. Finally, I just pulled out fuses F2.27, F2.18 and F2.34. Nothing blown. I wiped them down and blew on them, just because and then turned them around and re-inserted the fuses. Everything now works. I don't know what the real issue was, but there apparently was something interfering with the fuse connection.
Now, all I have left is to fix the rear sensor/alarm not working...and cruise control.
Pop off the floor panel on the drivers side door and make sure you have no cut or pinched wires in that bundle. I had a damaged cable in that bundle that caused me to loose things like my tail lights, reverse alarm and cruise control. We often tend to overlook the condition of the wires and focus on fuses. It's quite possible that a wire in there was repaired, pinched, damaged or whatever and overtime the connection has loosened.
