This vehicle is equipped with an adaptive Transmission Shift Strategy.
Adaptive Shift Strategy offers the optimal transmission operation and
shift quality. When the vehicle’s battery has been disconnected for any
type of service or repair, the transmission will need to relearn the normal
shift strategy parameters, much like having to reset your radio stations
when your vehicle battery has been disconnected. The Adaptive
Transmission Strategy allows the transmission to relearn these operating
parameters. This learning process could take several transmission
upshifts and downshifts; during this learning process, slightly firmer
shifts may occur. After this learning process, normal shift feel and shift
scheduling will resume.

Notice that it doesn't say anything about learning driving habits.
To account for customer driving habits and conditions, your 4R100
automatic transmission electronically controls the shift quality by using
an adaptive learning strategy
It's wrong. I doubt you'll believe me over the owner's manual, but they are wrong.
It adapts to account for manufacturing variability transmission to transmission, but it does NOTHING to account for driving habits.
Often the people that wrote the owner's manual had a hard time getting information from Engineering. They had to get the manual out, so they went with what they had. It wasn't always right.
I had a 97 f150 that had a steering column replaced and when I got it back the truck had a tranny problem. The tranny had no problems going into the shop. When I got it back, the OD light would blink and the tranny would shift in and out of OD at speed. I drove the truck home that evening and then on the way back to the shop the next morning, the tranny blew. The truck was driven no more than 10 miles and this happened. The culprit was a bad OD switch on the column that was shorting out. Needless to say the repair shop fixed the OD switch, put a new transmission in and all was still not well. The front pump seal was wrong and was pouring oil out. I took it back and had the transmission removed and supposedly fixed only to have a slight oil leak from the tranny still. However from the transmission being removed and replaced and roughly handled it caused the rear main seal to start leaking. Thus got rid of the truck.
Moral of story-- Do not drive the truck far if all is not right, problems will snowball.
