Just put a new alternator and external regulator in my 89 f350, batteries putting out 12 volts but gauge on dash is just past the red warning on the low voltage side and the battery light on the dash is on, any ideas? I re-replaced the regulator already and still nothing the needle hasn't moved
I'm not sure about the F350, but the F150 and the F250 of this vintage had a bad connector that hooked to the alternator. Atleast the original connector, the part that plugs in to a replacement alternator had to be replaced. They sold a pigtail that they recommended be soldered on to the existing wire connections of the leads that connected to a replacement alternator.

Yeah, 350s used the 2G also. In my opinion the best place for these alternators is the bottom of a garbage can. Upgrading to a 3G is pretty easy and not too expensive. They are more powerful and reliable too. Even after the pigtail is replaced the 2G is still a fire hazard.
