Pulled the starter and found the nose missing, now I can't find the piece. Have a new one coming, but want to know if the broken nose will give me grief if I install the new one?
Also, what could have caused it to bust off?
Yeh Allen, what I was thinking too, think I'll try to pick it with a magnet. Darn I'm working outside laying on a layer of approx. 3" of ice, not ideal.
Manual shift w/overdrive, any thoughts on what might have caused it?
(guess this pic link isn't working...)
Seeing as how it is a manual the issues maybe not as bad as with an auto. A manual flywheel is much stouter than an auto "flexplate" Still would be better to get it out I think. If I had to guess about cause I would probably be wrong, but possibly nosepiece was stress cracked and maybe starting truck caused it to "kickback" ocassionally? probably finished it off
Thanks for the info, that guess is as good as any, I'll give the magnet a try. I need to wait for the install since I ordered the starter online. Parts are expen$ive here from the parts dealer.
Darn I just caught an eagle in the windshield of my '97 Explorer! Damn I hate it when that happens! Wasted the glass and eagle.
