a question.. is the inline six 4.9 starter different from a V8 starter?? i put the starter from the prev engine the inline six.. tried to turn it but it just spins freely.. or maybe it didnt line up good.. it was dark when i installed it

I think both I6 and V8 302 starters are the same as long as its for a automatic or manual(auto starter to auto tranny and manual starter to manual tranny). The drive bendex is longer on one than the other(forgot which one).
Makes it nice without a fender in the way. When I did my 89 F250 engine, I had the whole front end off as I had to replace most of it due to the prevous ower's hack job bodywork.
