Leaky coolant filter valves

Anybody had trouble out of their coolant filter valves? Mine are starting to leak around the on/off handle, tried to tighten up, but still leak.

What brand of delete did you do? I have read of issues with some valves but it's been a while. It may be cheaper for you to just swap out the valves than trying to take up the issue with the vendor unless they'll replace them free.

It may be that the sealing washers aren't compatible with the coolant but you'd see that posted if there were problems since Sinister is pretty popular among the diesel community. I wouldn't hesitate to contact them.

Incompatible valves are most likely the right answer-coolant will act as a catalyst or solvent with certain plastics and will harden that plastic in a very short time. (Drop a piece of clear plastic tubing into a tub of antifreeze and it will turn hard in less than an hour.)Unfortunately vendors cannot always be sure that their specifications are met when buying parts for resale, especially from "a certain overseas country". The shaft seals and seats in valves are not made from the same material in every application. Please let us know what you find out, since there are a lot of us with coolant filters/valves. Thanks, Larry

First, let's not start a silly "bash sinister" thread over the valves or their seals. I have never done business with them, but I know they are one of the larger and more respected vendors out there.

Second, I installed 1/2" brass valves from Lowes that were similar in price to the ones offered from the aftermarket companies, but are larger, and on the surface seemed much more durable and have held up so far 6 years without an issue.

They aren't as aesthetically pleasing, but my filter is mounted on the passenger side frame rail.

Agreed. Any valve can leak no matter whose or how good it is.
