SuperCrew or SuperCab - Help me decide please
I currently have a Chevy S10 extended cab with a 4 cyl. Our other vehicle is a Excursion. I have had it since it was new and it has 220k miles.
Three reasons for the new truck:
--need more seating
--want something newer
--it is starting to get too expensive to keep this thing running compared to its value.
I have 7 children (ages 1 to 13) and have used the bed of my truck as a do-it-yourselfer, buyer of used furniture, gardener, many hundreds of times. Point is that while I don't use the bed everyday, it is not a show piece.
My budget is probably 13k max asking price (paying cash) although I would love to spend less.
I have been thinking SuperCrew for the last 6 months as I have been saving but seeing the price to miles and year, I started considering the SuperCab.
Here are my thoughts:
SuperCrews
**Advantages**
-More comfortable seating in back
**Disadvantages**
-Less bed space. Actually shorter than my current bed.
-Appears to be 15-25% more expensive
SuperCab
**Advantages**
-Less expensive
-Bigger Bed
**Disadvantages**
-Less Cab Space
Anything I am missing or any experience / thoughts to help me decide which model is right?
Thanks.

The SuperCab will seat 6, but there's a bit less knee room in the back seat. Depending on the age and sizes of your kids, that may be an OK trade-off to get the longer bed.
I've always had a SuperCab, even when my kids were teenagers, and they seemed to fit just fine, even when we drove 4.5 hours to my in-laws. Would they have looked more room? Yes, but what they had was adequate enough that they didn't complain.

I have an 04 SCab and the only thing I don't like about it is that it's a real pain to get into and out of the back seat in a parking lot. With someone parked next to you or if you are near a wall or something like that it is difficult. The front door is longer on the SCab and must be open to open the back door. That, and the way the rear door opens (hinged on the back edge) requires some space to access the back seat.
Legroom in the back hasn't been an issue with some 6 footers riding there.

Thanks everyone. I looked at a SCab today and I think there is enough room. Most of the time, it will be my kids back there, on occasion an adult. I think the increased cost of the SuperCrew ends up being the biggest factor. I don't think I can justify another 2-3k for a little more leg room and less bed space. Personally, I do like the SuperCrew a little better, but wants can't always outweigh the needs and value factors.

I had an 05 F150 Super Crew Lariat 4x4 for a while. I loved my truck. But, I found that 95% of the time I rode the truck solo. Taking it to work and back was it's primary duty. My back seat was rarely used.
Now I was looking for a new truck, I knew I wouldn't mind the Ex Cab so I settled for another 05 f150. But, this one is an Ex Cab Lariat 4x4. I'm still solo 95+% of the time. I have 6 kids all together. And yes, occasionally I do give some of them a ride but, I fit the same amount of asses in the seat as I would had I purchased the Crew. So, it doesn't bother me one bit that I got the Ex Cab vs Crew Cab.
Just my 2¢ worth...

Here is something I didnt notice Until AFTER I bought my 2006 F150 King Ranch SC.
Before I get to that, you CAN get a Super Crew with a 6.5ft bed, and from my research it doesnt affect the market value at all whether the Super Crew has a 5.5ft bed or a 6.5ft bed. They seem to be rare compared to the 5.5 ft bed anyway. Similarly, i would say the Super Crew rear seats in this era of truck are only marginally more comfortable than the Ext Cab. My 2002 it was a different story. The SC was like a lazy boy couch with endless leg room in the 2002 SC. The ext cab you wanted to die if you were sitting in the back after about 20 mins in the 2002.
Ok, now you wont ever notice this until you have driven both trucks back to back.
from 2004 to 2008, the SC Long Bed and the Ext Cab Long bed have a wheel base difference of 5 inches!!!! Thats right, 5 Inches!!! The SC Short bed, I imagine has the same WB as the Ext Cab Long bed.
So how did they get a 1 ft LONGER bed, with only a 5 inch difference?
Look at the Ext Cab or Reg Cab front door compared to the Super Crew Front Door. The raised straight portion of the window is about 6 inches different. Meaning the Ext Cab Front door is WAY shorter than the 4 Door front Door.
Similarly, in the back, the seats are uncomfortable and not as much leg room as my 2002 F150.
What am I getting at?
The Ext Cab and the Super Crew have roughly the same amount of cab space. I would say with in 5 inches or so. Save yourself the money if you can and get the Ext Cab! You will be less annoyed when you change lanes and the Door Pillar isnt in your way constantly when you do a shoulder Check.
For all the Super Crew owners that never noticed this, Im SORRY!

Now a 2009 F150 Super Crew LONG box is about 7 inches longer than my 2006 Super Crew Long box.
(remember my SC Long Bed is 5 inches longer than a SC short box).
7+5 = 12 inches. Thats damn near a foot now aint it?
So in 2009 they added a foot, for the longer box, instead of taking it out of the cab space. The 2009 is VERY comfortable in side for the rear seat. I can spend a hours on a long trip back there, no prob.
Here are some pictures to show you what I mean. LOOK AT THE FRONT DOORS! Notice how the raised straight section at the base of the window is shorter on the Super Crew Models.
Sorry I cant post pix yet. Too new a member? Will post when I can.

The extra cab space is 5 inches. And you can have both. The Super Crew was offered with a 6.5ft bed.

I've seen a SC with a 6.5' box...but like KingKhan sed, they're very rare.
I have a SC with 5.5' box. It just fits in my garage. Any longer and the garage door won't close. The 5.5' box is a bit inconvenient when I'm hauling stuff. My standard 6' ladder won't even lie flat in on the floor. Now with my 2 athlete boys bigger than I am (I'm 195lbs, 5'11')), traveling with the family is a bit crampy, but it's good otherwise for shorter trips around town and quite comfortable.
I finally said to hell with it and got a Superduty CrewCab with an 8' box...you get the best of both worlds and it's roomier than the F150. I can haul 2.5yds of compost in the back without bottoming out the truck. We take the F350 on all family trips now. The wife has also found new ways to fill the box completely on the way home...no way the F150 would be able to haul all of it. LOL. However, finding places big enough to park it is a bit of a drag in the City and low ceiling parking garages.

Must be a regional thing, the 6.5 ft bed supercrews are everywhere in central Missouri. The turning radius leaves a little to be desired on those things though. I would love to have a supercrew with the 5.5 ft bed as I have a trailer I use for most hauling anyway but the supercab fits my needs and with the price difference it was a no brainer.
