The time is nearing to rid myself of the 96 regular cab 5.0 and move on. I recognize that everyone has opinions which vary widely but I am interested in the advantages/disadvantages of the Super Cab vs. Super Crew.
I slightly prefer the look of the crew over the cab, but I will I have to park it in my garage and have the following restrictions:
There isn't enough room to walk in front of a SCREW with a 6.5 foot bed with the garage door down.
99% of the time there will be no (humans) in the back seat.
I have a personal bias against the 5.5 foot bed.
I haven't actually been inside one yet so I'm not sure how small the SCAB is.

I have a '15 SCAB with the 6.5' bed and am very happy with it. I, like you have people in the back seat almost never except the 8 yo grandson. I won't buy a truck with the 5.5 bed. At one point I was set to move to the SCREW w/ 6.5 bed but I believe I've changed my mind. Those are more difficult to park and once again, I hardly ever have anyone in the back. I believe once you look at one and sit inside, you will be pleased with the room. And they're less $$. Mine won't fit in the garage as it is.
I'm trying to decide this myself, and I'm with you on the 5' bed.
Supercrew = Easier to sell private party. You get your money back for that option when you do sell. I don't know if you tent camp, but your dog can ride back there, and you still have a lot of dry & secure storage at the same time. I had a crew cab truck before and I used to put my clothes & sleeping bag on the floor (in duffle bags) and my dog would ride up on the seat. It's easier to load groceries back there because it's a regular door. The downside for me is most of the time there was nothing back there.
Supercab = Shorter wheelbase makes it a little easier to live with driving around town. You can still fit three 6' adults back there easily (but they're not going to want to ride back there all day). It'll save you about $5k. My cousin has a 2017 supercab. I'm 6'2", adjusted the front seat to where it was comfortable for me, then I sat in the back. It's honestly not bad at all. There is a lot more room back there than there was 15 years ago.
I've always owned a Supercab I like the 6.5ft Bed and the 145in Wheelbase to me my truck is
not to long Fits in our garage barely the Back doors Articulate to 270 degrees open you don't
have the center Pillar Post,I have 3 Grandchildren that ride with me on occasion problem is they
all want to ride in front seat of the Rocket Ship also there is storage under the rear seats, except
for the power inverter under the R,R seat To me its a nice setup.
I've had various combinations of 3 and 4 adults on road trips in the Super Cab. 5 adults on shorter trips. No complaints. I think you have a "winner winner chicken dinner" situation with a Super Cab in your case: It fits, you like the 6.5 bed better than the 5.5, and there is enough room for the 1 percenters riding in the back. IMO a cab with a 6.5 bed looks better than a crew with a 5.5. YMMV on that. Good luck with your choice!
Great thread.
Doing the same soon. I think I am leaning towards XLT SCab with 5.0 and options including 6.5 bed. Wheeler will fit. Doesn’t in my 2001 F150 SCrew which is not only too short but too narrow.
If I didn't have people in the back seat on long trips, I'd go supercab for sure. That 6.5' bed has a lot more space if you are using the bed for anything for small amounts of gear.
Screw fared better than the Scab in crash test results.
I've had people in the back seat a few times, but found it very useful when I was able to put in a lot of boxes of wine in there and keep them all air conditioned on the way to Vegas while it was over 115 outside. Very nice to have.
I park it outside, don't care much for the garage, it's a real pain in the *** to park it in the garage anyways.
Also, what have been your experiences with the adaptive cruise control. I am thinking that would be a great option. Too bad it seems to be unavailable on trim levels below the Lariat.
Build an extension onto the back of your garage! Just kidding.
I just went from an '04 Super Cab to an 18 Crew Cab with 6.5' bed. Love it. My son is in his teens (13) now, got 2 big dogs, do a lot of hunting, fishing, & camping...I needed the room. I picked him and his buddies up from a school dance just prior to getting the new truck and they were squished back there in the Super Cab. Not anymore.
The eternal dilemma. 5.5' box versus the 6.5' box, and the smaller supercab versus the enormous supercrew. We went big with both (supercrew and 6.5' box). Parking in town is a b****h. We need to phone ahead to make a U-turn. It hauls everything & everyone we need. Oh dear.
That’s what I WANT and it would actually “fit” in the garage. BUT, would require a 37 point turn to get it in its spot. I hope the cab 6.5 will be a better fit.
Anyone in Lewisville Texas with a superCAB and a 6.5 bed want to show me how it’s done?
I have a deeper garage...had it built at 28' deep. But, the door is still the average double door width. I have learned with the old truck and now with the new one how to pull it in, when to turn the wheel, how much, etc. It's a process, but it became habit with the old one. I've almost got it down pat with the new one.
