SCab vs. SCrew

What are the pros and cons of both? Pre-purchase decisions going on here. Also if you own one of the two, would you switch to the other and the main reason why. I have a 4 and 6 year old and no plans for more, so keep that in mind. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I own a SCAB (6 1/2' bed) and wouldn't switch to the SCREW. My main complait about the SCREW is that you can only get the 5 1/2' bed. I think the SCREWS look out of proportion because the bed is too short and the bed is just flat out too short!

Even Rangers have a 6 ft. bed.

On the topic of kids. I can't really help you because I don't have any YET myself. I don't think the back seat of a SCAB would be too small for a 4 and 6 yr. old though.

Your best bet would be to test drive each one with the kids in the back seat. If they fight with eachother more in the SCAB then it may be to small for them.

Oh one more thing. You can only get the rear seat DVD entertainment system in a SCREW. So if you want something to keep the kids entertained then that may help. I wish my parents had a vehicle w/ a TV in it while growing up.

There are some pros and cons. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a SCab. I think they look better (in proportion) and the bed is longer but I don't have teenagers I have to cart around all the time, either. I would say that for small children the backseat is fine. For adults, anything more than a short ride somewhere gets uncomfortable. I think its a subjective decision so its hard to give advice. I wouldn't trade mine for a SCrew but I know the SCrew owners are die hards for theirs, too. I will say there is a lot more room in the new '04 Scabs that the previous year models. I was going to buy a SCrew until the dealer opened the back door to the SCab and I was amazed how much room there was. The rear windows even roll all the way down. I think a SCab would do you well. Just my opinion.

See now that's good information. I wasn't aware the rear windows rolled down in the SCab. I too am concerned about the truck bed being too short in the SCrew. Anyone with an SCrew have any feedback. Thank your for your quick responses.

I own a SCrew Lariat and would not switch to a Scab because of the fact that i am about 6 foot 2 and a lot of my friends are close to my height and usually when we go out I am the one to drive. I think the 5 1/2 ft bed looks fine with the Screw and its a perfect truck.. I wouldn't switch for anything.

I just purchased a SCrew and I have two small children in car seats. Whenever I was trying to make up my mind on which vehicle to buy (Scab vs. SCrew), I loaded up the truck with the salesman up front with me and my wife and two kids in rear seat of each vehicle. This allowed me to see that the SCrew was my only logical choice. While the bed on the SCrew is smaller, I needed interior room to haul around my gang. Besides, if I need to haul something large, I have a 16 ft. trailer to haul around. Just my .02

I have a supercab. I've had adults in the back seat several times already. I asked them if they were comfortable and they said yes. I'm sure you get a little more room in the Screw, but for me, the supercab is what works best. The 6.5' bed is perfect. I cut 2 66" 2"x4"'s for that little slot near the back of the bed and it works like a little trunk...keeps things from slidding around. There also seems to be plenty of room for a car seat. I've looked at pre-2004 F-150's in our parking lot with car seats and if THEY can get them in the older supercab with less room (new model has 6" more room), then surely I can get one in mine. All personal preference for the most part, but I love mine Good luck

If I had ridden in the back seat of the Screw BEFORE I bought one I would have bought the Scab instead. VERY uncomfortable, not worth the extra $$ IMO. But, if you have kids, it's a big pain to have to open the front door first, then the back.

I have ordered a Scab instead of the Screw just because the scab has a lot of room in the back and a longer bed. IM 6'3" and long legs and have no problem riding in the back of new scabs. It has more room than my dad 02 Screw IMO. I see no problem with opening the front door to open the passenger doors, Dont you need to open the door anyways to get in?

I have the SCAB, which I love. I have a 3 and 6 year old, but usually they ride around in mom's car. There is no problem fitting them in, but in a tight spot (like the garage or in a parking lot) getting them in can be a pain, since you have to open the front door most of the way, then open the back door. I end up having them climb over the front seat sometimes.

If I had to haul people around regularly (in the back seat) I think I would prefer full doors, but the real kicker for me was the bed length.

You ought to go to the dealer with your kids and have them try to get into the SCAB when it is parked next to another vehicle. That might make up your mind.

No question, though, it is a great ride. My kids love it, and my wife tries to steal it from me every morning.

Good luck

I owned a 97 Scab and now have 13k miles on my 04 Screw. I will never go back to the Scab. The rear seats of the Screw are exponentially more comfortable than that of the scab. While they scabs are improved over older models, they just are not anywhere near as comfortable. As for bed length the 1 ft difference is not a big deal to me. I would prefer a 6.5 box but I will always take the advantages of more cab room. Another issue with the scab is that you have to open the front doors in order to open the rear doors.

FWIW you may be able to get a 6.5' bed on a Screw soon.

The SCAB ought to fit you well for the next 4-5 years, given the age of your kids. Beyond that, the back seat will be too small for them and the access will be a pain in the wazoo. I bought the SCREW because in the SCAB my 12-year-old daughter's knees were planted against the back of the front seat when I had it adjusted for my comfort.

As a person who enjoys the outdoors, I have occasion to haul adult friends in the backseat of my SCREW. They would be totally cramped in a SCAB. That may or not be a consideration for you.

As for the bed length, I have a bed extender that gives me 7 1/2 feet when I need it. For me, that's plenty. You have to evaluate your own needs on that one.

yes, but then you have to stand around and wait for someone else to get in and out before you close your door, four real doors are alot more convenient. I have two 14 year old boys who play football and are bigger than me and they tested the back of the Scab versus the back of the Screw before I ordered, no comparison, I need four real doors and six inches more leg room in the back more than the one foot of bed length. I like the shorter wheelbase of the Screw as well(by 6"). There's a very good reason they offer better rebates and incentives on the Scab than the Screw, people are willing to pay alot more for their Screws. But if you need that extra foot of bed length, the Scab is your truck.
