engine oil cooler
Anyone know what size allen wrench (Hex) is needed to remove the engine oil cooler on a 1995 F250 w/a 351W (5.8L) engine.
The oil filter mount has a large hexagonal "hole" that apparently holds
the oil cooler to the block.
Thanks

bought one at a NAPA and the cooler came right off.
The "O" ring that's pressed in is a bit worn and ragged around the edges.
I'm going to try and add a couple of layers of Permatex Black Adhesive sealant. Hopefully that will keep it from leaking
Actually the engine oil cooler is a "donut" type manufactured by Modine.
I went to their website and found engineering drawings. They DO NOT refer
to the engine-block to cooler seal as an O ring. and indeed it is not.
They call it a gasket.
It is a round metal gasket covered in rubber (neoprene) and machine pressed on to the cooler housing. Which is why Ford wants you to purchase an entire unit when the gasket wears out (for the mere sum of 243.00$)
Ford also recommends replacing the coolant feed and return hose assemblies
at 86.00$ each.
That's why I'm trying to apply thin layers of black silicone adhesive sealant
to the worn rubber gasket.
Just a stop-gap measure until I'm able to replace the entire unit with a remote-located oil filter and aftermarket oil-cooler.
Even using AN fittings and stainless steel braided hose, I still come out 150$
cheaper than buying the Ford/Motorcraft parts.
