My 97 is leaking oil (and fuel but that later). The mess is on the drivers side. Everthing is coated from the front of the motor to the tranny. There is oil all over the oil filter and it has dripped down all over the front axle. It looks like it may be coming from the oil cooler. I did a search here and found several posts and descriptions on rebuilding the oil cooler. My question is when these things leak where on the cooler do you usually see the oil coming from? Mine looks to be comming from the area where the cooler attaches to the block. Is that the usual spot?
Dan, I haven't done one but I've bought a couple spare motors and took them off. But I think that can be a trouble spot. And other than draining the coolant, it doesn't look to be that hard of a job. Are you sure a valvecover gasket hasn't failed? And for the life of me, I can't remember who posted about rebuilding one. Hopefully they will chime in.
