If the ABS light is on, it's time to check for codes. Local auto parts stores, (AutoZone, etc.), will pull the codes for you at no charge. The ABS light and VSS issue could be related. Pulling codes will help narrow down your troubleshooting efforts.
Thanks IDMooseMan. Just for the record I bought this baby for $1500 and I knew she'd need TLC. Three days later I had an accident and couldn't use my right side for a few months. I was planning on doing all this slowly one problem at the time and I don't mean to clutter this site with my problems but I'm starting to feel better and am itching to get her all done. Thanks everyone. Zoltan

the local parts store will not be able to pull abs codes. there is a 2 pin connector under the dash, just to the right of center that you can jump with a paper clip to flash abs codes.
Trust me when I say this...You are NOT cluttering up the site with your problems. Problems like yours is why this site exists. Ask all the questions you want. The only dumb question is the one not asked.
At one time or another, everyone here was in a situation similar to yours. If you don't ask for help, you'll never get help.
Have you checked the VSS yet? It could be a really simple fix. Inspect the VSS pigtail too, it's not uncommon for them to rub bare on a suspension component or edge on the frame somewhere.
Here is a link that will help you with this problem immensely. If you have a multimeter and you're not afraid to dive into troubleshooting this issue, this guide will help you pinpoint the problem.
Go to group 05 (Brakes)
Then Section 06-09A for the troubleshooting process. The Pinpoint tests for each section will help you isolate the issue. Once you narrow the issue down with their symptom chart, click the link for the associated pinpoint test.
Thanks a lot! I haven't ad a chance to start trouble shooting yet. The kids had a snow day so I'm spending a lot of time with them. Hopefully tomorrow... I'll start with the VSS it seems to be the simplest then I'll go from there. I'll check out that link first though Nate. Thanks again. I appreciate the paper clip idea Richard.
BTW welcome to the forum. And upload some pics of your rig.
Thanks for the welcome ROENTGEEP and for the link! i tried to upload a picture but it didn't work. I'll try to resize it and upload it again. She's not pretty yet but she's mine and paid for.
I hope today is the day! The kids are home again but so is my wife so I'll have the time to get a good look at the VSS and clean it. I'll re-read every post to make sure I won't forget anything. I'll post an update when I have one. Thanks everyone. Zoltan

You are welcome, de nada, no problem. We can wait for the pics
Well I spent most of the day on it yesterday and finally got it off. It was frozen and caked with oil and grease and the whole thing frozen together. Anyway I'll probably have to buy another one which is fine. So this morning I took it out for a little joy ride, I stopped to get fuel and when I tried to open the door the handle wouldn't work so I tried a little harder and the door handle stayed in my hand. Now it can only be opened from the outside. HAHAHA! At least she keeps me busy. Thanks for all your help. I can do the door on my own just thought I'd share it. I'll take the VSS off again and clean it again and make sure the pigtail is good before I spend money on new parts. you all have a great day and be safe out there!-Zoltan
Yeah, the LAST thing you want to do when the interior handle doesn't work is pull harder. They're known for the cable stretching, or the metal of the door where it mounts bending a little, causing it not to work. Gently bending the metal back, and/or adjusting the cable, restores its function. Some fellas who break the handle by forcing it try to "mask" the problem by replacing it with a metal handle from the earlier ('80s vintage) trucks. This just allows them to use even more force, and they eventually rip the metal structure of the door that it's attached to.
