The '96 and '97 3/4 an d1 ton (F-250 and F-350) trucks should be identical. And this is a truck, right, not an E-series van? Does the truck look like
A
Hey Nate, it's the "A" pic but it has different (smaller) mirrors. Otherwise it's the same square body style. Also yes it is a truck. F250 HD Power Stroke 4X4.
And that truck has a mechanical Odometer in it? I don't think I have ever seen one with anything other than the digital display before. We might need pictures of this! LOL
Sorry for derailing your thread here, but that's just really odd.

Not a derail at all. The type of odometer, the electronics involved, all determine the diagnostic / troubleshooting procedures. Getting this ironed out will save the OP from chasing his tail and/or throwing parts at it that it doesn't need.
Ok, I owe EVERYBODY trying to help me a huge apology!!! Apparently I am a moron from way back! My odometer IS digital. I took pictures and will try to upload them if the site will let me.
Okay, well that means that you're fuses are good. It sounds like the next thing to check is the VSS on top of the differential. There is one bolt to remove then you can wiggle the sensor up and out of the hole it lives in. You may have to use a little pry bar or a big screwdriver to get it to come out. You can try just cleaning the sensor off if there are a bunch of little metal shavings on it. That may get you back up and running. If not, you should probably get a new VSS. They're only about $30 at the dealership.
Great! Thanks Nate. I called a transmission place a few days ago and after I told them what it was doing they quoted me $800-$1500 to fix it. $300 just to look at it. So thanks a lot guys and next time I'll try to be more specific. I took her out to stretch her legs a little and my ABS light is on. Is that related or should I fix the VSS and than see about the ABS light? Zoltan
If the ABS light is on, it's time to check for codes. Local auto parts stores, (AutoZone, etc.), will pull the codes for you at no charge. The ABS light and VSS issue could be related. Pulling codes will help narrow down your troubleshooting efforts.
