I looked at the tech specs thread (very helpful) and it describes the front axle as a Dana 50 Monobeam.
Any help for a mechanically challenged owner would be greatly appreciated. Vehicle has been in shop for some time while we try to locate the part and my father wants his car back.

EXv10--is the 60 larger or smaller than the 50? A NAPA auto parts guy thought he found two that would work at a salvage yard. He used the VIN info I gave him. However the mechanic called and told me that they were both too small.

Too small? Someone will chime in to confirm what I said. The 60 is just a little more heavy duty, not much different.

Unfortunately I am relying on what the mechanic said about the differential being too small. I dont know if it came off an excursion or another vehicle which is why I am confused and frustrated. Anyone know of any places in Central NY/Northeastern PA that could have the part?? And how can I find the OEM part # for the assembly? He says he needs the entire assembly to make the repair.
Wife was driving it to bus stop one morning and it locked up on her. Mechanic put a camera inside and said a few of the gears were stripped off. He did say the fluid was fine....
my guess is the mechanic just wants a plug-n-play differential all ready built and ready to bolt on.
You need to ask him what ratio the differential is...3.73 or 4.3. If he keeps saying it's too small maybe what he really means is the ratio is too small? Sounds like your mechanic is a bit of a . Any mechanic should be able to take a diff and rebuild it with new gears to match the front ones. then re-install. I doubt the diff housing is worn out (though i've had that happen once on an old trail rig H1)

They are close to the same thing, I think Sammie0126 put a 60 in there. Wait for more chimes.
The ratio will be a problem if you put the wrong one in there.
icentropy--I think thats what he wants to do instead of rebuilding it. He did say the housing was damaged on the inside too. I did ask about the gear ratio and he said that wasn't the problem. I think I tracked another one down--fingers crossed.

You took your truck to fix front differential. It looks like your mechanic is trying to work your rear end also.
Whatever you decide to do, let us know your experience. Good luck.
