oil leak

Hi all. My '86, 6.9 recently developed a rather moderate oil leak. I will describe where it is coming from as best I can.

On the driver's side of the motor there is a housing that bolts on with 4 bolts just behind the power steering pump. It has an approximately 2" to 2 1/2" "pipe attached to it which runs to the back of the motor. It attaches to another housing next to the oil filter.

The leak is at each end of the "pipe" where it attaches into the housings. The front leak is really bad - I can watch oil drop about 1 drop every 5 seconds.

I have never been able to chase this leak down as it was not this fast until now.

What component is the oil leaking from and what is the best way to fix it?

Thank you all. The advice that I have gotten here is priceless.

-John

^^^ What he said.

Rock auto sells the parts and there is a thread on here somewhere that walks you through it. I did mine a year ago and it is still going strong.

P.S. Dont put it off, it can get water in your oil or vice versa.

Here's a diagram of what the oil cooler setup looks like, so you have an idea on what you are getting into. Hope it helps.
