I was driving my truck yesterday, and had to stop for a light, I pushed in the clutch, and when I released the pedal, I heard this loud thunk, and something shot out from under the dash. It was a big red spring, that attached to the clutch pedal. Everything still works fine. Do I really need this spring, cuz I can't put it back in. The tabs with the holes that the spring attached to broke off, both sides. It looks as though this was just some kind of asisting spring to help push the clutch pedal in.
Well, mine shot off too a few years ago on one of my trucks. It was extreemly difficult to get it back on, so when it shot off again, I just got a slightly stronger return spring for the clutch fork, and it's been working fine with full pedal return ever since.
I think it's called a torque equalizing spring. They come in red or black and I don't know the difference. Some will say you need it and some won't.
I cant put it back in, the tabs are broken, but the clutch pedal still comes all the way back up, it just seems a little harder to push is all, heck, my wife would not have noticed if hadn't mentioned it. I may throw a different kind of spring in there just in case though.
