2011+ SD Factory remote start (another thread)

I just bought a low mileage 2012 F250 6.2 4x4. It has keyless entry, but no remote start. I wanted to add the factory system to the truck, but couldn't get a definite answer from anyone as to whether it would work on the SD, or if it was an F150 specific part.

The problem was, when I went on the U.S. Ford accessories website and entered my year and model, it gave me several options for the available remote starters for the truck. I also went on the Ford Canada accessories site and it isn't listed there. However, IMO the Canada accessory site is lacking.

So I went to the dealer with the part number (BC3Z-19G364-A) for info they told me that part number is for an F150 and it probably would not work on a F250.

Not being one to let something go that easily, I called Ford tech support. After getting transferred several times, I got someone that was willing to go as far as to say it "should" work on the SD. But because the part was listed on the U.S. site, and not the Canadian one, there might be a difference between the U.S. trucks and ours. He wasn't able to guarantee that it would plug in the same as it would on an F150.

Today I went to the dealer and they had the kit in stock, but the warning I got was "It's an electronic part, if you open it, you own it". I took the chance and bought it. It fit with no issues (wish they gave you the screws to attach it instead of zip ties). Tomorrow I'm taking it in to get the IDS hooked up to turn the feature on and have the keys cut.

I paid about $270 for the kit, plus whatever they charge to hook it up to activate it.

This may not be news to some of you, but I thought I would post my findings in case someone else had the same questions or concerns.

I will add pics of the install tomorrow. The instructions I found online were pretty clear, but pics should make it crystal clear.

Man, I wish you would have posted this and asked us if we knew where to find it. Ebay has the same kit for about $100 cheaper. The install instructions will be good for us that don't have it as well. I know this will be a future mod for me, so I appreciate the post! Make sure you take pictures too!

Did it come with the remote key fob? If so, that's not a bad price. Ford dealer told me the key was $180 plus programming. I went to a key shop and a plain key was $80.

I saw the kits on fleabay, but wasn't sure if it would work, so didn't want to get stuck with a kit I couldn't use. I have a decent relationship with my dealer, so in the end I was able to talk them into letting me try this, they said if it didn't fit they would take it back as long as there was no damage to it. It benefits them too, now that they know these kits work on the super duty, they can upsell them.

It came with 2 new integrated fob key with the extra button for remote start. I was told the keys alone are $90 each. The only downside I can see is that this is the shorter range kit. The 200 series is the one with the extra fob, and it has greater range. I didn't want another fob on my key ring. I've already got one for the wifes Trailblazer and one for my Mustang.

Pics will come tomorrow.

Good call then. Yeah The "shorter" range one though still works good. I mean if you really need to be half a football field away to start your truck, then IDK . Was the kit plug and play? This would really be a great upgrade for the truck.

I had this added to my XLT. Did the whole thing through the dealer and it cost about $475. They programmed it so that the 2 new remote start keys and my original two remote keys all still work. The starting range with the integrated key is fine. I wouldn't want the separate dongle, myself. The system works well, you can program it from the message center to let the truck idle for 5, 10, or 15 minutes before it automatically shuts off. It also automatically sets the climate control for you, whether you have the auto or manual system. Basically, it checks the outside temp and decides...if its cold out, it turns on max heat / defrost / and heated mirrors. If its hot out, it turns on max A/C and seat coolers. If its a moderate temp, it turns on whatever you had set last. Great upgrade which adds value to the truck.

Yes, completely plug 'n play, no tools needed.

Here are the pics I promised.

First, empty your glove box, then squeeze the right side to allow the stopper to clear the dash. Let the glove box door hang down.

The TPM module is inside, to the right. The black box seen here.

The harness plugs into the grey spot on the module, where I'm pointing (I've already plugged it in). Use the end that is closest to the white harness retainer.

Route the wire up and behind the module (shown under the red line). There are holes in the dash frame that line up with the black retainers. I never found where you're supposed to clip the white one. Plug the other end into the antenna. See next photo.

Mount the long black antenna above the glove box opening, on the dash frame. I used screws and washers instead of the zip ties supplied in the kit (red circles). Photo taken looking up from floor

Then head to the dealer and have them cut the keys and enable the feature on the truck. They might want to charge you to program the new keys to the truck. You can program them yourself, it is covered in the owners manual.
