Probably longer than that. My 99 doesn't have one. Passenger side one should be above the door and not on the pillar.

They had them from 04-08 on the pillars. I loved having it there in my 05. They removed it for the 09 model. The passenger side handle is actually in a nice spot. Very easy to grab and really helpful getting in and out of the truck. And its a lot more sturdy on the pillar than what it would be just above the door.

I gotta say I'm not a fan of those grab handles. Every time I get in or out of the passenger door of my 98 Expy., I hit my da** head off that thing. Thankfully it's not very often that that happens since I drive just about everywhere my wife and I go. Very rarely do I ever get in that side. Which is why I probably still hit the da** thing.
