The new front end

Hi,

Does the new front end styling look unappealing? It's almost Ford is competing with Toyota for the ugliest grill or something. The grill on the new ford looks like it's the older Tundra styling. The headlights are not quite the new Chevys with the bar across headlight assembly.

What are your thoughts.

I personally love it. I think it has the most aggressive look on an f150 since the 77 model year. Honestly I don't see the resemblance to the Toy as much as I do to the 08-10 Super duties. And at that I think this front looks better and meaner than even that style Super duty. I think it looks bad a** just the way it is. That bar into the headlights thing, yeah some people don't like it. (My wifey being one of them.) But I do. I think and this is MHO part of what gives this truck so much attitude. About the biggest part of the design of the truck that I would say resembles the Toy are the taillights. And yet I think Fords design looks a little better. About the biggest thing that concerns me on the trucks design is the windshield posts. To me they look like they are going to be rather intrusive to visibility. Much like the 97-03 trucks. In my 98 expy I can lose a whole car in the blind spot created by how the windshield post are placed in that vehicle. Other then that I wouldn't change a thing. Well maybe give the truck the wheel and tire combo that the Atlas truck has. That stance really made that design look awesome. Keep in mind this is just my humble opinion.

I like it and I hope that ford uses this as an opportunity to bring the f series closer in line with styling.

Yes it look like a Toyota. I think ford is trying to update it styling for the younger group of people. I like the 360 camera, and the LED lights.

I like it and look forward to seeing it in person when they hit the dealerships. I'm glad they did a radical redesign and I'm anxious to check out the new 360 degree camera. I think that's a pretty cool feature.

Im wondering if any of the parts might actually be interchangable with the Tundra?? I just hope they dont put panties on the SuperDuty as well, its getting uglier every year too.

it appears there was a double agent in the design room for Toyota. Yes it look like the Tundra front grill. Put them side by side and there similar..It wont stop people from buying the new F150. I don't know why Ford is rolling out a 2.7L and yet other trucks are still offering the V8's. Ram -5.7 and Toyota 5.7 and Chevy 5.3...Now that Fords had its unveiling when will the others ready to roll out there answer? So why aren't the others offering 164 cubic inch engines?

The Ford styling is loosely based on the Grandfather of all F Series trucks, the F-1.

Judging from your picture, in my personal opinion you've got the ugliest generation of the superduty,

As far as interchangeability of parts between manufactures, maybe you could substitute a bolt here or there but I'd say thats about it. Look at them side by side and nothing is even close, just similar styling.

Simple. V8 power from the Ecoboost 3.5 V6. No need to offer a 5.X V8 engine. FWIW, it's to get a jump on the upcoming revised CAFE standards. The F150 is doing something the other companies are not, dual role. Remember the F150 is really handling what was the Ranger's place as well as the traditional 1/2 ton market.

Think about how many fleet based businesses find out they can get 1/2 ton capacity with 1/4 ton fuel economy. The cable contractor down the street use to have Rangers. Now he has a couple of Toyota Tacomas in his parking area. He said he would have gotten another set of Fords but they don't have a small, fuel efficient offering. He said as cheap as vans are, they cost bundle in fuel. (I know that as first hand since I had a Chevy V6 fleet van. The van never got better than 12 MPG. Since I worked for a telecommunications competitor, it was constantly getting refueled every other day. If you spend 90 bucks every other day across a fleet of 300 just in my group, that is huge amount of revenue being spent on the fuel bill alone. When I left that particular company due to a downsizing, they were changing over the fleet to smaller, more fuel efficient like Dodge Caravans and Hybrid GM trucks.)

So if Ford can get, let's say 26 MPG with the 2.7 Ecoboost, fleet buyers are going to be looking at that truck not a Chevy with a 5.3 that gets 14 or 15. The 2.7 is more of a game changer than one might think.

I never noticed the tail lights on the Tundra. Today while my wife was leaving a store parking lot there was a Tundra in front of us. I saw the tail lights and in deed, they looked very similar in styling.

My thing is the look of the new truck. When I saw the front end, I said "wow it kind of has a Toyota look" It reminds me of the MY 1997 when the new design came in production. Even though I owned a 1999, I had to work on it to make it look less ugly. I had my sights set on the MY 2004-08. Those trucks looked like they went back to the more squared off look in the grill and head lights. Personally, even though I never got to own one, the 92-96 front ends were really nice.

Hey not mocking the new truck, I just wished they made it more distinctive. I hope it does well. Some of my retirement funds depend on it

I don't think the others are gonna go the super small displacement route,,it appears Ram is ecodiesel bound,, haven't heard anything from Toyota, Nissan is Cummins bound and Chevy will tweak a current engine,, The 8 and 10 spd trannys will play a role in these newer trucks..

If it sells, they will follow, they really won't have a choice. They have to go where the money is.

Ram can keep the 8 speed in MHO. I don't like the fact that you do have a manual shift lock option that the 6 speeds in the Fords have. Plus the Ford 6 speed is a pretty stout tranny. And FWIW that's saying a lot coming from me. As I prefer manual transmissions. But I guess they too had their day. Flicking a button as helpful as it is for controlling the shifting of the truck, just doesn't compare in the fun department that you can have with slamming a stick from gear to gear. I just hope that the projected 10 speed trannys will continue to have the manual shift option that the 6 speeds have.

Oh silly rollerstud, my big ugly truck made enough money last night pushing the white gold to make a payment on this lame new truck for you and maybe one on your soft-hands-guy car stuck in the garage.

As for the optional dinky engines, it surely is to help the corporate fuel average. The Govt. will mandate gasoline out of existence if they can. If you need a truck that only does so little, you dont need a truck..

Commenting on how ugly a Super Duty is,,cmon. Funny how the F150 each and every year keeps taking its cue/look from the SD. What the new 15 look like. I had a 02 SD and it always looked good. Anyone focused on a trucks looks instead of its capabilities, is obviously a pavement queen and wanna be trucker..JW767, I got just got the Snow Plow package on my 14 with upfitter switches....Cant wait to use it for the next big storm here..That is a good name for the white stuff,,white gold,,my brother rakes in the dough when its snows..
