Quick back story. I lost my 2003 X EB V10 back in sandy It was heart breaking as I loved and cared for that truck like you wouldn't believe.
Fast forward to yesterday, I scored a Deal on a 2002 Limited 7.3L
MY FIRST DIESEL
I've lusted for one of these bad boys forever, but could never find one worth a damn. Till I found Tabitha yes that's her name!! Feels good to be king of the road again.
Naturally, I'm already looking to make a few changes. Hoping you guys can help point me in the right direction!
First of, this has the old style radio. Combo CD player Tape Deck. My old X had the 6 cd changer. I want to get back into that. I did some searches, but am a little lost as to which one is the right head unit.
I do have all the steering wheel controls and the rear DVD System. Which Ford 6CD Changer head unit is the right one for me? Obviously I do not want to lose the steering wheel controls or the DVD system. I'm also hoping that maybe installing that will help a little with the overall sound quality? (I know speakers have a lot to do with it, but it felt like my old X just had more kick!)
Second, the paddle mirrors have got to go. My old X came with the 2008/ newer style telescopic tow mirrors. I did some searching, but felt overwhelmed with all the posts I read.
Basically, where should I go to purchase these bad boys to give the truck a refreshed look, and how hard is it to wire them up? Are there some already pre-made wire looms/pig tails to make it plug and play?
Really happy to be back guys and looking forward to being part of the community again!
just because I am feeling lazy, here is the truck on the dealer site
No I didn't pay sticker for her.
She is immaculate! Not a speck of rust on the under carriage, and the motor purrrrrs
Beautiful!! Wow you got a good one there, very low miles for a diesel.... keep her forever. I know how you feel. I sold my first X 2 years ago, then it took 1 year of searching and got back in 1 again. I drive mine just about every day. Very clean ride you have there. I envy the diesel too.....
She really is in perfect shape!!! No rust under side and the interior is in perfect shape. Even the drivers seat looks new!!!!! I have been searching for one for the last year. I almost settled on a few 6.0's that were in pretty decent shape, but the motor always scared me a little. I know the 7.3 is older as opposed to the 2005 6.0 I was looking at...but man I just couldn't pass up such a sexy 7.3! NO BUYERS REMORSE HERE
Side note...you know you are in love all over again with an X when all you could do at work was look forward to leaving just to fire up the beast and take the xtra long drive home
No I will not be pulling anything Someone is going to shoot me for saying this, but this is my toy / midlife crisis at 28
I always wanted one of these trucks when I first saw them!!!! I will keep this till it gets pried out of my hands!
I said the opposite when I first saw one at Barnes & Noble bookstore in 2001. "Why would people buy this big suv? V10 gas guzzler! Noisy diesel, what a waste of money"
Looks like a nice rig. Any other mods planned? As far as the mirrors go several members have used 1aauto with good resluts. They are plug and play with your year and some came with adapter harnesses for the older style plug.
Here is a good tech article to assist with a stereo upgrade.
I currently have a 99 stereo with tape and cd which works wonderfully when I plug my tape adapter in and connect to either the ipod or phone and use music from either.
