Just wondering who has replaced there factory CD/radio with an indash DVD/CD/Navigation system or if there is such a thing. I have looked online but I dont know where to look. So any opinions or suggestions would be great.
I am interested in doing the same thing... I've been trying to figure out what it would take to make an OEM nav unit from an F-150, explorer, etc.. work in a truck without one. I know they will mount up exactly the same, but I'm not sure about programming it to work with the components you have.
I put in a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 (CD/HHD/DVD/GPS) in my new F150 a couple weeks after I got the car. It's a touchscreen unit and is definitely the best toy I've EVER bought. Its got a 30GB hard drive that uses 20 for the NAV maps (no separate DVD's, they come preloaded) and 10 for music. Check my gallery for pics.
So with the AVIC-Z1 installed you lose the ability to control the radio from the steering wheel?
There is an adapter you can buy for like $40 that will allow you to retain the use of the steering wheel controls. I think it's a PAC-SWI. I believe it's programmable so that you can assign different functions to each one of the steering wheel buttons. I don't have it...I bought the optional remote for the unit and it suits me just fine.
I just installed the Alpine IVA-W200 in my 2004 Lariat this past weekend. It is touchscreen and I have added the Nav. option, Sirius radio, and Ipod interface to control them all through the unit. It has been great so far. I did alot of research and ofund this unit to be the best value for me.
i have the eclipse avn5435. it is nav, dvd, i also have sirius. and like it a lot. i wish i woulda gotten the step up (5500? if i remember correctly) just because it has a harddrive in it for music. as for the pac adapters for the steeringwheel controls. i have installed a few of them and sometimes they work well and sometimes they do not. i havent tried one in our trucks though. have put one in an h2 and it didnt work well ,but in a titan it did.
Go check out crutchfield.com. They have a spot to put in your vehicle and it will show all the touch screen DVD players and everything else that will fit in your truck and ones that will cover the hole perfect.
For less than $2.4K you could get a pioneer or eclipse NAV, with the internal music storage, reverse camera, your choice of satellite receivers, bluetooth adapter, steering wheel interface and still have money left over to upgrade your speakers.
A Factory Unit Will Not Work, It's Not Wired For It. I Would Get One That Is Real Time Gps And Not A Dvd For Navigation. You Will Pay More But Its Much Better.
I know that some people put a factory unit in place of their old basic stero... they just need to re program it. I'm not sure what is required to program it though.
Some Of The Cheaper Ones Use A Cd And If You Take The Cd Out Some Of The Options Will Not Work. I Tried To Put A Factory Unit In My 07 King Ranch And The Dealer Said That It Would Not Work.
