Good morning all, I have finally got my 79 F 150 fwd running. As this was a basket case when I started I did just the basics to get it running and driveable. Now it time to make it run better and smoother. This motor(400) was only supposed to have 65,000 miles on it. It runs well, doesn't seem to burn oil, but doesn't have any power. If I was to change the OEM timing gear and Chain with a new one and leave the stock cam in for now would that help in the power dept? All your info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Cruise the 351M/400 motor forums, cause putting a straight up timing set will wake it up. Most are retarded 8 degrees (?) from the factory for smog requirements.
And a straight up timing set will take out the retardation and make it run better.
Contact T Meyer for the good stuff and real deal info.
