So it appears as though the bushings on my distributor are shot. This is what my new rotor looks like after only 2 months and about 500 miles........
Sorry for the bad cell phone pic.
The inside of the distributor cap was similar. Some of the spots the rotor goes by to transfer the spark look like the rotor has hit them, while others have black marks on them like the spark is having to jump a long ways.
So, I have heard that remanufactured distributors are notorious for the bushings being bad right out of the box or going bad quickly. Since it appears as though I need a new distributor, what is a good one to get to ensure I won't be having problems with it again in the near future?
Are you certain the distributor is bad? It is possible that the rotor was not properly lined up when installed or fully pressed down. Possibly, the cap was not seated fully. With the rotor off, can you wiggle the shaft? If it does not move excessively, try another rotor and cap.

I'm positive it was seated correctly. The truck was running bad before I installed the new cap and rotor. See my other thread for the whole run down on it.
Yes, the distributor shaft does have some side to side play in it.
I don't know that one brand of remanufactured distributor would be any better or worse than any other, so just get one with a lifetime warranty and be sure to rathole the receipt somewhere you can find it later if the replacement distributor goes north.
Unfortunately.... pretty much only one major company re-mans distibutors anymore. A-1 Cardone. Napa, O'really's, Carquest, Advance, AutoZone all use them. They're hit or miss. Cardone select does offer a brand new one, they're a bit better than the re-mans.
Maybe a Ford dealer has a NOS one in stock somewhere?
