So I went and took the front cladding off, my truck is now clean. Well actually by looking at the photos, my truck is not clean and is in need of a wash...
On a sad note, I found some body damage It was not under the trim, but looks like my door opened too far when the wind grabbed it from my hand, and the hinge hit and puckered out the knife edge. The worse part is that the paint has chipped there and is now gone Not sure what I am going to do to fix it. I am open to suggestions... FYI, the spot across from the damage is a water droplet.
Tap it back into place with a hammer with a rag over the head. Than touch up paint.
I was thinking just that, I even have a rubber mallet that should work, however, it is a little bit of a bummer. I did also post this on the "what did you do with your Ex today" thread, and I am sure I will hear the same suggestion there...
One warning for you though... I have had a similar situation with a vehicle and learned a lesson from it. A small place like yours had been banged and bent up... the paint had chipped just a little like yours. I used a rubber mallet and popped it back into place, but... when I did, the surrounding paint for about 2 inches out got crack lines that eventually peeled off and I was left a huge spot that needed paint and even painted it stuck out like a sore thumb.
Lesson? Just touch up the small spot and leave well enough alone. OR take to a professional who actually knows the consequences of his actions from experience.
I know it doesn't work with cutout fender flares. I mean it'll work, but it requires trimming the areas that would be covered by the flares. The flares need to sit flush against the body.
How hard is it to remove the cladding?
My passenger side is damaged on the rear and I'm guessing that fixing up just the metal and ditching the cladding would be a cheaper option. Besides, the chrome piece would go away which definitely goes with my all - black theme

The cladding is very easy to remove. You just take off the fasteners around the wheel wells, and then pull up and away. The tape should give with little effort, however, some of it may remain on the truck, needing to be carefully removed from the quarter panels and doors. If you decide to do it, take your time and good luck!

you may find some paint differences, but you will never know until you take a panel off. As for the left over tape, I just used warm soap and water and gently rubbed off that was left behind. Goo Gone, may work, but I have not tried it. I do know that WD40 will also loosen stuck on tape...
