My 2001 Powerstroke is acting like it's running out of fuel going uphill only, once I reach the top of the hill and the truck levels out it comes back to life. My first thought was CPS so I replaced it but the problem still persists. Not sure what else would affect it and why it only happens going uphill? Any suggestions out there?
The two time my CPS went out the truck just died. Sounds like some fuel pickup issue because when you level out it runs fine. Does it do this all the time regardless of level of fuel in tank or did it just start with the level you have in it now.
It's done it a few time now at all different fuel levels but is progressively getting worse. If I have my foot in it hard it starts to flutter a bit on the flat until it starts up hill then shudders and falls on it's face till it levels out.
No fuel pressure gauge that i know of. The truck has the Banks programmer kit on it but i dont remember seeing fuel pressure as an option on the controller. Just replaced the fuel filter a few days before I replaced the CPS. The filter was not that old but I did notice it was extremely dirty compared to the last time I changed it.

There is a very good indicator that you have a fuel pick up issue. There is junk clogging the sock on the pick up.
