Need additional help from Bill (Number Dummy)
You helped me identify this rear axle a couple years ago but could you help with additional info?
.......09 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.70-1 / non Limited Slip / 3,300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.
Confirmed is it has the 28 spline axles and is the small bearing but one thing is perplexing. You explained it's the non limited slip variety but the guy working on the truck swears it is limited slip because the wheels rotate in sync and not opposite with the truck in the air.
Second we need to know what is or how to find the case size (2.891 or ?) Trying to place an order for a replacement ring and pinion as well as the complete install kit. I'm trying to bring it back up to the 3:70 from what it is now..... a 3:23......which I hate.
Thanks! <!-- / message -->

Look for early 70s down 9" rear ends since that is where you'll find most 28 splines. 3.7whatever to 1 where very common. You might have to buy the whole rear end but that usually runs about $150 or so in the junk yards. Swapping out the pumpkins is much easier and cheaper than doing a ring and pinion change and setup.

One way to pin it down a bit...Ford changed the design of the differential bearings/cups mid-year 1969. Get the stamped BIN (Bearing Industry Number) off one a these parts, post what it is.
1959 thru today: If the AXLE code stamped on the Rating/Warranty Plate or printed on the Certification Label begins with a letter: Limited Slip.
If the AXLE code begins with a number: No Limited Slip.
If the truck had come with Limited Slip originally, it would have a Spicer/Dana rear axle, as the 9" with Limited Slip was not available in F100's until 1968.
