crown vic rear axle question

I've swapped the front now I'm changing the rear end to match from a crown vic. I tried searching again for what year rear I needed to match in width but couldn't find it this time. I plan on using the factory steel wheels. The front is 2005 and plan on a 95 rear, will this fit? Thanks.

from my research:
all Crown Vic rear ends from 1979 to 2002 are 62.8" wide.

that's 1.5" more than the stock 59-72 width, and .2" less than the 73-79 width.

so, you can just grab any one with disc brakes (and maybe a posi differential, from a police model).

A 1979 LTD is an entirely different car than a 1978 LTD. There was no such thing as a Crown Victoria until 1982 (excepting the 1955/56 Crown Victoria), and...

1973/78 LTD's are not the same cars as the 1977/79 LTD II .. FoMoCo's idiotic and confusing name that replaced Torino.

Same basic "Panther" platform under the skin: 1979/81 LTD / 1979/2010 Mercury Grand Marquis / 1980/2008 Lincoln Town Car / 1982/2011 Crown Victoria.

FoMoCo changed LTD to Crown Victoria in 1982, because...

1983/86 LTD/Mercury Marquis are mid-sized "Fox" bodied cars.

I know this is an old thread... but I'm having a mental debate. I've got a '57 and have access to the state auction. They regularly sell old police vics. I want the front end and the motor for sure.

I'm debating on also keeping the AOD trans and the rear. The rear mostly to address the track issues from using the cv front end and the stock rear end.

Since it's been a few years... are you running the CVs rear? any real issues with it?

Why not buy a 5.0 explorer instead? Use the seats, rear axle, motor, trans (aod-e). CV front ends can be found for <300 bucks all day and share the same bolt pattern as an Explorer

The Explorer rear is even more narrow than stock - 59.5" vs stock F100 - 61.25" If the idea is to get the rear end closer to the same width as the CV front, this is kinda going backwards. Although, limited slip, disc brakes, 31 spline axles would be nice......
