Recently, ive been looking at possibly adding another old truck to the fleet. i looked at a 66 F100 4x4, a 78 F250 4x4, and today i checked out a 73 F250 XLT Ranger Camper Special 2wd......as a semi regular driver, the 73 might be nice, p/s, p/b, auto tranny.....i havent driven it yet, but its got a swapped in 429. i understand these engines can make some decent power......All my other trucks are 4wd, so i dont really NEED another 4x........then again i dont need another truck either.......
Im not sure, but statistics would suggest its a standard motor, nothing special........sticker on the drivers side valve cover mentions emissions/tune up info for 429/460 series, and it specifies 429........Hard to read, almost illegible label. I will probably make a decision tomorrow
I owned a 1970 Mercury Marquis that had a "standard" 429 and it had tons of power. I wouldn't let the fact that it isn't a SCJ be the deciding factor in wheter or not you buy the truck. My 2 cents.
Well i looked at it a little more today, i still havent driven it yet......on the drivers side valve cover, the sticker SUGGESTS its a 1973 429 engine, and both heads have D3VE-A2A stamped upon them. engine has a 4bbl holley on a Ford intake, i dont recall the casting number. Body seems pretty solid, interior is pretty good and the seat is near perfect and really cushy. it hauled a camper, judging by surface rust/minor wear on the bed along with a 2" +or- plywood bulkhead on the front of the bed. its got 16" white spoke wheels, midship and aft mount fuel tanks, and 8100 lb Gvwr. its a Ranger XLT. i will drive it tomorrow, and assuming it drives well, i will likely buy it......For $1000 bucks, i figure it might be fun....
G-note, schmee note, feed the addiction, it'll make you feel better. There's 7 holes in a persons head, if new holes hurt there wouldn't face piercings.
