I am going to look at a truck that is an 1979 F-250 supercab 4x4 with a 460 in it. I thought I read some where that Ford didn't put 460's in the 73 to 79 trucks with a 4x4. Just wanted to make sure before I consider purchasing something that might be modified.

My first vehicle was a '79 F250 2wd that had a factory 460/C6 w/4.10 posi. Got about 4 mpg, If I remember correctly. Don't know about the availability in a 4wd.

2wd yes every year, 4x4, I dont think so until about 82 (I could be wrong) it is a popular swap though. dont let that alone discourage you.

 

I'm thinking 460 4x4 with manuel tranny no. 460 4x4 with auto yes.

 

460 was not available in a 4wd until 83.

 

It's swapped in. Make sure it has 7 valve cover bolts and not 8 if you go look at it. Good luck!

 

in the 4X4's it was usually a 400.
A lot of the 2wd's came with 460's my 77 has a 460 from the Factory.
