A few days ago at work i backed into a chevy truck. thjis truck stopped maybe 2 ft off the rear bumber. i didnt even have my foot off the brake when i tapped him. there where only minor scuffs and scrapes to the car i was in, and apperently i broke his licence plate holder. i wasnt even going that fast. he took my drivers licenece number down and cell number and i got his name and number. there was also a witness
i called him up today and he says the licence plate holder is 51 bucks taxes inc. i dont wan to give him 51 bucks and be done with it. i want to buy it my self, so i have the reciete and replace it for him so i have the old holder.
am i goin about this the right way, or am i just getting screwed over here?
Geez $51 for a plate holder? Thats why new trucks cost so much. BUt it sounds like you are going about it the smart way by buying it yourself. If it was me on the other end I would proably just take the $51 and not buy a new plate holder! Let us know how it turns out.
im affraid thats what he'll do then try to pin me buy saing he never got the money nor the plate holder. and screw me outta another 51 bucks. i dont think its 51 bucks. now if he doesnt let me buy the plate holder, and install the new one and take the old one with me inm gonna tell him to walk away cause i dont want to get screwed. but if hes seroius about it he'll let me do it my way
Make him sign a reciept saying you gave him 51 bucks and that you've fufilled your requirements to him for the incident. Then he can't come back later and want more.
Wow, just meet him at a auto parts store and buy it with him there, then have him sign a receipt saying that he was paid in full. Simple as that. But $51 bucks seems real high for a plate holder! Good luck!
i cant believe its 51 bucks for a older model chevy (b4 the new body style) thats a days work for me
also it was a construction truck so the entire thing is dented and beat up. im not too sure if that piece of plastci was broken before or not but if it was, why should i have to pay full price for a new one? he just wants to make a quick buck offa a "stupid kid"
$51, wow!! That must include the cost of installation at the dealership. My guess is, is that he doesn't even know what a screw driver is......being a Chevy truck owner........Well, never mind, he should know of every tool that exists in that case...
He's also committing larceny. Challenge him on it, and if he doesn't play ball call in a lawyer. Any jury on earth would laugh the begger out of court, and then he can pay for the court's time as well as his two bit cheesy plate holder himself.
-Wait, on second thought do this (it's cheaper).
1) Do not admit any fault whatsoever.
2) Leave it up to the insurance companies - refuse to deal with him personally any further.
3) Without any witnesses to the contrary, he can explain how he struck your vehicle in the rear unless he was following at an unsafe distance.
Figure the odds he can swindle professional swindlers!

My guess is that the $51 includes install at the dealer. I'd prolly tell him to get it fixed and that you will pay him when he signs a release form that you've prepared. He should not be bothered by this either. The form should state that this is full and final payment and settlement for the accident, date it, put names and all the other good stuff on the form and both of you guys sign it. Really, it's his pickup and he has the right to have it fixed at the shop of his choosing provided that shop's repair cost is competitive with other shops in your area. If ya **** him off he may just return the favor by running it through your insurance; not worth it for a palty $51. Also, by paying the shop to do it the guy has a warranty if, say somehow it came loose.
