You have probably lost your money. These scammers know all the ins and outs. He's long gone with your money, and the name he gave you was as bogus as his computer deals.
In the future, never send a Western Union money order to anyone other than your mother, and then, double check her ID.
How can someone in Alaska give you a better deal on a Dell than the real Dell? Sorry, but you have no one to blame but yourself. Think of it as an expensive lesson in life.
I may be able to help you, can you give me this guys email address. I dont know if this group I know can get your money back or not, but they can put his address on some scam list? but they have to have more info,
Saw a story like this one on 20/20 or something. These guys can make websites that look like a reputable company, have you send them money via Western Union or through a fake financial institution and "poof" they are gone.
Apparently scams like this are all over the place. In my opinion Western Union is just as bad as the "crooks". It is just to easy to swindle folks these days.
in the future use a prepaid visa credit card, you get the protection of a credit card....but and here the catch...........ready?
its your money...and the credit card can only be used for the amount that you advance to it....you controll the credit limit of the card,...no one can tell its a prepaid card till they try to put more on it then what is avaible....plus your money is sitting in the bank earning interest which helps offset the fees that the credit company charges....ask your bank about it....they are great for shopping online with....and are very secure and great for teenager's and collage kids...you can elctronically transfer funds to them...plus you'll know what there spending habits are...... welll maybe you don't want to know..
You might check into financing a laptop through Dell ,as I know a few people who have gone that route.I don't think I would rely on getting the laptop from that guy in Alaska. It sure sounds like a scam.Goods luck with whatever you decide to do.
Find out who the State's Attorney General of Alaska is and get a hold of his/her office and file a complaint. Chances are you won't be the first to complain against him.
I work for the fourth largest dealer of computer/hardware/software vendors in the nation, I can tell you that if a deal looks to ggod to be true it is. You lost your money (sorry) somtimes you need to not try to save a buck and get it from a company that has been around for awhile.
That company/person is hard to find. There's not much on the web for that info. They are not listed with the Alaska Better Business Bureau; http://www.alaska.bbb.org/search.html. So it's probably just an internet run home pc business. Hopefully they are legit and maybe your package is just delayed in delivery. It might take longer to get a package from Alaska to the lower 48 states.
i got ripped off almost 1000 dollars on e-bay. i payed with paypal using my credit card and the guy kept giving me excuses. by the time i got sick of listening to his excuses it was too late to report the fraud to e-bay or paypal. its been over 3 months and i still havent got my money back or the lift kit. meanwhile im paying payments on my credit card bill.
try finding out if they have a state law that covers "theft by deception", it is a feloney charge, i had to use it once, i called the local sherif, explained what happened he then contacted the "person" and informed him that if he did not turned over the goods, that he would be charged with " theft by deception" ...within 72 hours i had my goods. just have all facts in order, fax all the documents , maintain a cool calm professional attitude when you talk to law enforcement, and if you could get your wife to make the call....even better...
