I have the 2wd 76 f100 with a 302. I've been looking at the conversion threads ,but none really say what had to be changed. I have a buddy with the stock dana and all the other goodies for it. They came of his before he turned it into a mud truck. I was just wondering what i would have to change to mount it. I already know i have to change the crossmember. What about coil buckets?

 

Front axle, t-case, fab up a link suspension, and work out the steering. Realistically, if ur asking then it's prolly beyond your capabilities and resources. Better to buy a 4wd to start and be further along. Oh, add a rear sump pan and pick up to the list...and two driveshafts. Mo money, mo money, mo money!

 

Something with the cross members too if I remember correctly. 4x4 conversions aren't worth it at all IMO. Just buy a 4x4 if ya want one...you'll be money ahead by taking that route.

 

x2 definitely, buy a 4x4 if you want one don't waste your time, blood, sweat, tears or money converting 2wd to 4wd.

 

Front axle pumpkin will contact the front x-member of a 2wd frame...unless it has about a six-inch lift.

 

i got an adapter from pathfinder that converts a 2wd c6 to a 4wd tail,

 

I hate to yell but.... JUST BUY A 4X4!!!!! You'll spend more doing the swap than finding a decent 4x4 to start with.

 

I would buy a newer 4x4 drive truck. I eventually am for a dailey driver. But my granddad gave it to me and he is now seeing the truck that he never had. It was crushed by a tornado when i got it and now body wise it is about perfect. It's not out of my capabilitys to do it. I already knew about steering,moving the crossmember, transfer case, and drive shafts. I was wondering about how to mount the track bar and all. Should i stick with the c4 and get a adapter or should i get a c6 or a old 4-5 speed?

 

A yeah, this seems to the general consensus, if you gotta ask what you need, its probably not a good idea.........Either buy a 4x4 thats built the way you like it, or swap your bed and cab onto a 4x4 chassis, thats manageable.....

 

I'm not worried about the parts. I can get the whole front end for under 500$. I'm going to have to get a new transmission anyway in the next few thousands miles. So I'm not worried about the parts. Just how to mount it up.

 

Does anybody know what year the c6 would bolt to a 302?

 

Any year small block/ I6 trans that has the 6 bolt bellhousing. The early Mustang/Falcons had a 5 bolt bellhousing if I'm not mistaken?

 

I'm probably going to switch to a c6. From what I've heard a c4 isn't very good in a 4wd truck.

 

I can get a, i believe it's a np205 transfer case for next to nothing. Are these good transfer cases?

 

I'm going to paint my truck. But why should i put a 3000 paint job on it when i can get another truck cheaper with a better paint job than my truck. I'm not getting rid of this truck. At least not for a while. That's why i want to do it. It's just a long term project.
