Depending on how hot the DPF got during the time that you knew it was in an active, it is possible for the process to continue once you park and keep the truck running. It takes 5 or more minutes for the exhaust temperature to drop below an effective regen level after active regen has ceased and the truck is idling. Normally a full cycle takes 8-10 miles depending on how you are driving. Obviously the less rpm and the less work the truck is doing, the longer a cycle takes.

If you are parked and idling, there really isn't any way to know what is happening without some sort of monitor. I highly recommend the Edge Insight CTS. Not only does it help to plan and execute efficient regen cycles, but it can read and clear trouble codes which can be a life saver in some situations. For less than $400, it is a sound investment. I think the Scangauge is less expensive, but it is also less capable and has a less visible screen.

Thanks Matt. I'll seriously consider the CTS

Can it clear the EGT sensor problem and get the truck started again after it goes into limp mode or stops altogether? If so I'll buy one right now.

Apologies if I sound ignorant. I did read all of the posts in this thread. As well as the diesel manual.

This is my first diesel and I had my first "Drive to Clean Exhaust" yesterday as I was driving. The next screen that came on was "Exhaust Cleaning in Progress." However, I did not see anything after that. And I drove the truck for another 15 or so miles after that.

I did press the i button on the information system after getting to my destination and the "1 Warning" that was previously there was now cleared. So I can assume that the regen was completed even though there was not a message saying it was completed?

Here is a link to the Edge Edge Products| Product With the new Edge software you can start a regen event manually while the truck is parked in your driveway, but your tailpipe should be pointed away from things that melt or catch fire. Ive used that feature a couple times already when I just don't want to drive to clean exhaust. It is a little loud as the cooling fan engages and RPMs go to 1500 for the duration but it gets soot % down to .98 on my truck in 10 minutes.

All I know about diesel engines is what I read in the Ford Diesel Manual. And I remember reading a way to do a regen at idle, in your driveway, without any aftermarket software. Provided your truck has the capability and correct factory options. Is this true? Or did I misinterpret the manual?

True, via OCR (Operator Commanded Regen). It is an option, as far as I'm aware, since the manual says "if equipped." My truck is not equipped, so the manual is the extent of my knowledge.

That was going to be my next question. Is my truck equipped? Or, what would the truck need to have in order to be equipped?

That was going to be my next question. What would one have in their truck in order for it to be equipped for OCR?
It is not very specific in the manual.

Only Chassis Cab trucks, XLT and XL models I believe have the OCR feature. These would be ordered to preform work as ambulances, tow trucks, work horses idling for long periods or using a PTO. This would allow firms mechanics to do a regen when these customers more than likely cant just drive to clean whenever the truck wants it.

The Edge CTS can activate the OCR. You have to answer about 6 questions to get it to work, but it can do it.

Hey thanks a lot Fellas. The diesel manual was pretty straight forward, except for the part on the OCR Regen. It did not list any models or 'necessary equipment' needed for this.
I do have some questions on the Edge CTS. However, I believe I should ask them on the appropriate thread. Thanks for the clarification.

This is what a Ford engineer suggested.
