Have a Mini Maxx race tuner and it is ready to install. Truck is sitting unused due to the DPF filter being clogged and truck went into limp mode. My DPF/CAT delete pipe are on the way and install time is 3 days from now... My question is whether or not it is ok to go ahead and program the truck with the emmissions deleted option but leave the DPF and CAT in place for the next few days until they can be removed. Is this going to harm anything or would it be ok to do?
Would like to ask before i cause horrible problems.
That is my question, ive been told to do the install before any physical mods to truck.
Right now the truck is in limp mode, it takes 3 days to get the new pipes in, would it hurt anything to go ahead and install the tune and shutdown EGR and "delete DPF" but then drive it for 2 days until i can actually have the DPF physically removed?
Personally I don't think I would drive it, wouldn't take long for the dpf to fully clog. If the dpf is trash, cut it off right before and try rig up a "turn down" tip. Red neck, but I would do it if I absolutely needed my truck...lol
I suppose i can drive my work truck for a couple of days and let my truck have a break till it gets the new parts in. I was just curious on what others thought about it since many are more knowledgeable on this subject than I. I just didn't know if it would be bad for it or indifferent so always better to ask those who know more!
I know way more with the 6.7 and the general consensus is not to drive it after as it will fully clog. I loaded mine, started it up to make sure the programming was loaded and that was it, no driving till the new pipe was on.
I've heard of guys that hollow out the filter, but I better shut up now, I don't know that much about the 6.4
I think ill just hold off on it, I have a work truck that I can drive daily in the mean time and not leave a black residue all over the bottom of the truck.

Oh, you won't leave no black residue on the bottom of the truck, most tunes don't produce much smoke, unless you constantly deep in the pedal. But that doesn't mean you can't pull the pipe off, tune it and hear what it sounds like in the driveway.
I strongly suggest not to drive with DPF installed with delete tunes... The DPF will clog quickly. As far as simply removing the DPF for now, you'd be exhausting straight from the down pipe and the exhaust will make its way into the cab... You won't be happy.... Quite nauseating.
+1 Do NOT drive any more with the DPF on. Once it's fully plugged up, you'll need a new DPF if you ever need to go back to stock.
I assume it's going into limp mode because it hasn't been able to regen?
Regen occurs only when coolant is >160F, and then it takes another 20min or more on freeway to burn out the soot...more if in stop-and-go traffic. Cold weather doesn't help either
One thing you can try doing is to blow out as much soot/ash as you can before you put it back in for whatever reason. That'll give it some breathing room to regen and maybe get out of limp mode for a short while
Thanks for the input guys, I think ill just live with driving my work truck (7.3L 5 speed so not real upset about driving it i actually love driving it usually so ill go that route until i can get the actual delete pipes installed and have everything squared away to really drive it.
