High Altitude starts?

I have a 2000 F250 7.3 for about a year. I live in Colorado and like to do a good amount of backpacking in the mountains which means driving and parking the truck (sometimes for days) at high elevations. Example....the trail head for the hike to my favorite lake is at 9500ft above sea level. I have heard that the 7.3's have starting issues at elevations above 8000ft. Is this true? Does "starting issues" mean wont start or may take a little extra cranking? Is there anything I can to do make sure it starts when I get back from a couple of days hiking? Thanks!

Yes you will notice a difference in how it starts, but it will still crank up. Might take a bit of extra cranking, and don't be surprised if there is more than usual white smoke once it fires up. That's about it. Not really a big deal.

Thanks Pocket! I was a little freaked out when I read in another thread that 7.3's have issues above 8000ft.

First I've heard about this. I park mine at at least 7500 feet for weeks and never had a problem. Please post back when you do this I would like to here how it goes.

I dont think its a big issue. Granted I live at about 100 ft above sea level, I do frequently travel into the mountains. I've never had any issues. You will have a loss of power with elevation, and it may take a few more cranks to start. This may equate to more LONG term engine wear, but its not really measurable or anything to worry about.

I used to have a house at 10300ft and never had a problem starting my X. Oddly, I would see blue smoke on startup that I didn't see at 5500ft.
